new to the flock
Just wondering if anyone else has a big problem with ferel cats. I have taken 4 here the last couple of weeks and 2 at Dads last month. Now I know that it is winter and we usually get an influx of them as the weather gets harder but I absolutly hate them. They are fun to tree with Paddy hound though NTTF
Cranfield
On the basis that most cats belong to someone, its not considered safe in the UK to shoot cats, as they may not be truly feral.
Poacher
Where i live there are quite a few that roam around, however the farmers also have cats too so i can never be sure which is which...Hence its a no goer
SPEEDY
We have ton's of em down here, there one of the biggest threats to our native wildlife there is. I don't know any shooter down here that that doesn't roll them on site. Of course there is a difference in size between a feral and a domestic down here so it makes em easer to spot EDIT NOTE: Please note that this feral cat was shot in AUSTRALIA. henry d
I shoot more feral cats that foxes up here, however i have to say that I know which cats belong to which cottage and can make an instant judgement.I spoke to the BASC and they were with me on ID calibre/shot size etc. If there is any doubt, and in a couple of occaisions there was, DON`T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT ! SPEEDY - could you let us know what the legal status is down there ??
auto culto
apparently they taste very similar to rabbit and look virtually identical when skinned. Back in the WW2 days cats used to be sold as rabbits on the black-market and so earned the name "war time rabbit" It got to a stage that no one would buy rabbit unless they had their tails left on so they could be identified
al4x
We're a long way from having cats on the authorised quarry list over here. I have to say that I know keepers who tollerate cats and I know ones who don't and do shoot peoples pets which is pretty low. Personally I've never shot one and don't think I would unless it was definitely feral, we did have one shot on our shoot though last year that was every bit as big as the one speedy is holding up and was definitely feral, so they do exist in the UK
Catamong
Hey Guys, I thought this was a Pigeon shooting forum..?? I defy anybody to tell the difference between a domestic moggy and a UK feral cat at 200 yards in long grass at 2am in the morning. How would you like it if your prize Persian wandered in for breakfast one morning with a .243 slug up it's rear end..?? Cat.
tiercel
I am no lover of Cats in fact I have a pathological hatred of them. One thing is puzzling me though. How can a cat that is brought up in a wild environment be expected to be larger than is tame counterpart? If the cat were living off what it can catch, surly it would be smaller that the cat that has it food put in front of it every day?
pavman
NTTF Dont start me on the wild big cat thing again, it will end in tears

Frank
I shoot more feral cats that foxes up here, however i have to say that I know which cats belong to which cottage and can make an instant judgement.I spoke to the BASC and they were with me on ID calibre/shot size etc. If there is any doubt, and in a couple of occaisions there was, DON`T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT ! Likewise, over here in Eire, their is a population of ferals, that i get to control from time to time, big nasty wild things, a fluffy ball of razorblades. They distroy all the nesting birds ect and are worse then foxes in my opinion. :o Frank. How would you like it if your prize Persian wandered in for breakfast one morning with a .243 slug up it's rear end..?? Cat. If, a, .243 bullet, connects with a cat, me thinks, their WONT be, much left of pussy sir. Frank.

Dunkield
I watched a feral cat for little while through my bino's, when were up in Arran earlier in the year. When I mentioned it to the others I was told they should be shot on sight
Paul in North Lincs.
On the docks there are loads with traps all over the place.......and yes....these are big muthas that feed on fresh fish and feral pigeons!!!!
kipper
I saw it on a video, the ferral cat's are mutch bigger than the domestic ones because the bigger stronger ones survive better. and there are less predators tha will tackle them, so over many years the largest ferral cats have survived and bread with each other and the result is a mutch stronger larger cat. I saw one cat on the video have a go at a fox and the fox was having none of it and scarpered. bloody nasty things I was asked by the owner of a caravan park to, Thin the ferral cat population out on his caravan site but I declined as I think it would have upset to many people and I was not sure if it was legal to shoot feral cat's in england :( kipper
