lloydi73
Ok good people and vets of PW... What do I go for Tikka T3 or Sakko S85......243 Calibre....... I was all set on T3, but then S85 caught my eye and is supposedly a bit more superior.....Yet everybody I talk to loves their T3 and some guys I know who have been shooting 27 odd years all say go for T3. So bearing in mind their vast experience, do I listen and go T3, which apparently groups straight out the box, or do I spend that extra £600 and go for S 85?!?! HELP please, I love both guns!! I'm looking at black synthetic with SS barrel......
Luckyshot
both good guns so go with which ever feels better for you.
wymberley
If you have an itch - and the dosh - scratch it. The only thing that I could fault on my T3 - same spec' but 223 - was the plastic magazine (that is apart from having to screen the underside of the lamp to stop the glare reflected off the nice shiny barrel affecting the scope - but that is not the rifle's fault). As someone on here once said, these are not supposed to be consumable items - and are not cheap to replace when worn.
WelshMike
I have a Sako 85 in .270. Synthetic Stainless, 20 inch barrel, PES T12 stainless mod and a Swarovski Z6I 5-30 X 50 IR BT scope. Great rifle, shoots well.
Rem223
You could also consider the Sako A7 its something of a hybrid between a Sako 75 and a T3
Scully
You have to choose the one YOU want. regardless of what anyone else says. I have the T3, mate has a Sako, and another has both. They are fabulous rifles.
kernel gadaffi
T3 and spend the £600 on a scope/mounts.
steve_b_wales
T3 and spend the £600 on a scope/mounts. +1. I have a T3 Lite (.243) and a Sako 75 (22-250) both excellent rifles. I cannot fault either rifle, and my T3 was accurate straight out the box.
Scully
T3 and spend the £600 on a scope/mounts. Good advice.
gibby
Had the same dilemma just last week. Went all in on the Sako. As you've been told, the Tikka is very good. Had one in .243 and it was fine. What decided it for me was the feel of the Tikka having picked up the Sako. It just wasn't the same. Plastic magazine was naff and if I settled for the Tikka I would regret not going for the Sako. Edited October 4, 2014 by gibby
shootgun
You could also consider the Sako A7 As above, cannot fault mine... Guaranteed 5 shots MOA straight from the box, mine shoots better... Way better than a T3 and much cheaper than a
Dekers
Sod spending the extra £600 unless you simply want to, it will bring no additional benefits of usage to the general shooter. The reality of the Sako is that it will likely be a marginally better built quality, but it will be no more accurate or reliable than the Tikka in everyday field work. al4x
The simple answer is they are similar rifles just the sako feels better and lacks the plasticky bits. They will shoot the same so it is just aesthetics, I'm very glad I bought an 85 finlight and enjoy using it I know had I bought a t3 that I would still hate the feel of the stock and the plastic magazine
lloydi73
Thanks everybody for your input!! Very helpful..... Just to let you know, I went with the T3.....Got a package deal, burris scope Ir 3-12 50, mounts, mod bag for £1,500, so banked the £600 and will save up for a nice scope later on....... Redgum
Nowt wrong with the scope either, Burris are much better than they are given credit for. The glass isn't bad and they are mega reliable, had one on my 308, banged around woodlands and never lost zero in two years, only replaced it as the recticle was quite heavy and a second hand vx3 came up at a price I couldn't refuse. Scully
Looks good. I doubt you'll have any reason to regret the choice. Edited October 8, 2014 by Scully
