The Mighty Prawn
Gggrrrr came out of work, started the L200 and it sounded off, like the pipe was blowing so thought I'd have a quick look, only to see lovely shiny metal where the exhaust was cut through and the cat converter has gone! No witnesses, no CCTV, no chance of recovery So gang, an 11 year old L200 worth about 3k are we likely to be written off as my bro's ranger had the same happen and it was over 2k just for the new cat I hate scumbag thieves! la bala
My son in law had the same happen 2 years back, it had been cut with a pipe cutter, no noise.
bruno22rf
Had the same done to my Shogun-you should be able to get one from Ebay for less than £300. Dont forget to inform the police-they dont have a cat in hells chance of finding it but you need a crime number and it gives them something to do when they are not doing you for speeding. loriusgarrulus
They will nick anything. We had the copper piping off the bottom of the caravan nicked one night. They just didn,t cut it. Some of it was wrenched off. Cost of repairs and replacement was £240 and we had a £100 excess to pay and the small amount of small bore copper pipe they took would have been worth only a fraction. It had all been checked a few weeks before and was fine. We discovered the loss when we arrived on site with my daughter and the grandchildren on holiday. Fortunately we managed with the electric hook up and a spare double ring gas stove OH keeps in his van :(
The Mighty Prawn
I have toyed with idea of going straight through to avoid the insurance claim, will speak to our vehicles guy at work tomorrow and see what he thinks about going without as I quite agree without an expensive anti theft they will take it again shortly
loriusgarrulus
Pity you could,t wire the underside of the car up to an electric fence.
The Mighty Prawn
Pity you could,t wire the underside of the car up to an electric fence. Weirdly during my initial angry revenge fantasy I thought about covering the replacement with broken glass like the wall of a corner shop in the 80's Then I moved onto hiding plastic explosive inside so the corrupt scrap dealer gets blown up when he melts it down Then I realised I'm a big girl when it comes to actual conflict so I'll just rant on an anonymous forum... loriusgarrulus
Did see an American device a while ago that puts out high speed gas jets under the car. How do you like your thieves well done or medium rare.

bluesj
You should be able to get the complete exhaust system including the cat for about £350 or less
figgy
You can buy catalyser anti theft kits to stop it happening. If you replace it might be worth getting the kit. Figgy
Twistedsanity
Straight throughs are now an mot fail, if it was on there when it was new it has to be there for the mot attitude I'm afraid
richie223
We have had a lot of cat cons been nicked from the works vans, in the end we have been fitting cat clamps to stop them.
norfolk dumpling
At the rental company where I work p/t this is a regular event - the thieves come in over the fence jump onto the roof of the vans causing extra damage. I did offer to spend a few night shooting the magpies and squirrels and any other vermine but my offer was refused.
Mentalmac
Insurance job to get new one, or ebay - keep it in your house in cupboard and straight pipe it and just take it to friendly MoT centre where you know them well? Or fit it just before MoT
