Lord Geordie
Just got home, turned tap on to wash the dishes! Nowt but cold water. I check the meter! Display says "call help" rang SSE and am told it won't get done till tomorrow! House is already cold! Cup of hot choc and wrapped in a duvet. Have a dozen candles going here to try and take the edge off. Rather magical watching the shadow waves across the ceiling, I remember night like these in my childhood, sat around the parrafin heater with a cup of bovril. Getting very nostalgic! Mike737
My grandparents really did have a three-seat earth trap at the bottom of the garden, and a tin bath in front of the kitchen range, where pans of water were heated on different height hooks ove the open flames for a bath. Granddad used to fetch the wood from the local sawmills in a sack on his bike, which he wheeled back as he couldn't ride it with the sack on! As kids we loved it! Then they 'modernised' and got an Elsan toilet in the outhouse... Little village (then) called Bucknell in Shropshire (Salop). Mike.

Lord Geordie
You were lucky, we sat round an extra strong mint. We could only afford chalk, and smear it in vicks for the menthol flavour! Chaps came out at 8:30am and popped a new battery in. All up and running again now! Just in from work and off for a nice hot bath. Ahhhhhhhh
