kyska
What is going on here? just had my renewal notice, I've not changed car, 11 years no claims, 39 years old, and it gone from £370 pounds to £650, just like that! Bit of go compare needed I feel. Edited December 5, 2014 by kyska
loriusgarrulus
Try NFU real people answer the phone and being a mutual society they keep the prices reasonable. Mine has only gone up by small amounts most years and last year went down as I don't use it for work anymore as retired.
grrclark
My wife just had her renewal notice, it came in at £375 had a quick look on confused.com and the same insurer is listed at £162 and with a lower voluntary excess, but all other policy elements the same. Quick phone call and they promised to price match their own quote in the interest of good customer service!!! Needless to say she opted to go to someone else. fella
They rely on people not reading their mail, or not being bothered to shop around. If you ring them, they will most likely drop it.
fruity
Just had a similar thing with my vans. On to the comparison websites found a £118 cheaper policy, but with the same company I'm currently insured with ??

JimLondon
Do a comparison search and I'll wager the companY your insured with now offer you a better deal than your renewal quote.
robbiep
Interestingly, I just had a quick look at my last 3 years of insurance prices, all from the same company. 2014 : £232 (new car) 2013 : £247 2012 : £235 So not all of them are dishonest, and try to load up their pricing on renewal. I'm an IAM member, have been for a few years, and my insurance is with these people : https://www.cornmarketinsurance.co.uk/group-insurance/insurance-for-iam-surety

Davyo
They all do it mate, they hike it up the following year,so you do a quick comparison search save £150 and then ring your old insurance and say"don't want to renew" "why" they ask,"because I can save £150 elsewhere " "oh we will match that" "to ****** late you greedy ******" Even had one of the cars with Hastings, they wanted £189 more than my search. But the daft thing was the cheap search (like for like)was with their sister company. parapilot
As said they try it on in the hope you just renew. Always compare quotes. Then when you ring them you get all the as your a good customer blar blar blar. I always leave, even if they beat it. It's principle with me, they tried to rip me off, they had their chance to quote, does not matter what they say on phone. I go with the lowest on the go compare etc. if everyone did this then they would have to quote right!

ferguson_tom
Called up Admiral the other day as renewal was around £1400 when only paid £1000 last year (this is for both cars and me and the mrs are 25 and 23) Fella couldnt be more helpful looked what he could do and offered a price close to the £1000 again, he explained that he doesn't like messing people about and gave me the best possible price.. turned out he was telling the truth as I couldnt get near it from anyone else including Admiral online acting as a new customer. I must say so far I have not got any complaints with admiral this is my 3rd year with them and both times with renewal had similar experiences. Of course all companies try their luck as the insurance automatically renews on a lot of them but a quick 10 mins phone call they know they wont get away with it so offer their best price as know you will be going shopping. All part of the game dont take it personally.
jonny thomas
Be carefull what you sign up for when buying cheap insurance I work in a body shop when repairing budget insurance claims the companies really squeeze the bodyshop ie They wont buy new panels if they do they will be pattern parts Nfu are pretty good though they expect a good job to be done and will pay for it unlike any number of others
