Fredwalton
Hi Does any one know or know where I can find out how far you have to be away from a public footpath whilst shooting? Thanks
TIGHTCHOKE
You can shoot from the path if you are showing due dilligence.

Westley
If you still require an excellent book covering most of the Law regarding Huntin, Shootin and Fishin, then get hold of a copy of a book called Fair Game. Well worth the money and should be a Bible for Shoot Captains.
Buckster
There is this book as well that is useful http://www.nationalgamekeepers.org.uk/shop/books-and-booklets/sporting-shooting-and-the-law
robbiep
You can shoot whilst standing on a public footpath, if the path is on your permission. You commit an offence if you shoot within 50 feet of the centre of a public highway (defined in law as the public have a right to travel along there in motor vehicles), if by so shooting, you cause unreasonable fear, distress or inconvenience to the highway users. norfolkgoose
Not 100 percent sure but belive that i have read that a bridle way is classed as a carriage way too !
yickdaz
BASC advises that discretion be used where shooting needs to take place and where a public right of way exists. All persons participating in any shooting activity must recognise that users of public rights of way have the right to pass and repass. One should refrain from shooting when a right of way is being used copied and pasted that from the basc definiation of the rule, last year I was shooting on a rape field public footpath directly in front of me 150 yards away, (measured distance with google earth) each time I saw someone walking down the path I put the gun down and let them pass once they left the field carried on, until I got a phone call from the local firearms chief, saying he had a call from one of the footpath users, and had sent 2 officers to check my car parked at the gate to the field they got all my details from the reg plate name and sgc details phone number, issuing police force etc on the national database I told him that I stopped shooting when I saw anyone on the path until they left the field, he just said no report of any dangerous shots just that they had heard gunfire as they left the field was told to carry on but ring them before I shot that field again in future and that was it. Fredwalton
Brilliant thanks for all your help. The BASC page explains it well, just wanted clarification as the farmer just wanted to check that me being near a footpath was ok. Where I will position myself next time I will have a good view of the footpath so will be able to stop if I see anyone.
Westley
Dependant on which part of the World you are in dictates how wary you need to be, these clowns do not always stick to footpaths.
Fisheruk
Not 100 percent sure but belive that i have read that a bridle way is classed as a carriage way too ! Nop the clue is in the word Carriage, its absent in bridleway. Edited December 19, 2014 by Fisheruk
12boreblue
Bridlepath is for horses as well, as long as they are 'bridled' ie under control I believe.

Mentalmac
Dependant on which part of the World you are in dictates how wary you need to be, these clowns do not always stick to footpaths. Again though, as Tightchoke says 'due dilligance'. Ensuring you take only safe shots (i.e backstops etc...)

I had a woman on a horse come riding through my decoy pattern shouting raaaa , at the decoys , as funny as her face was when she realised , that they were dead.. i got out and gave her a tellin off at the dangers of riding through s decoy pattern on a field were she had no permision to be on . Some people just are not rite in the head . Just to add you can shoot off a foot path . Atb ezi.
