islandgun
Advice please, I'm applying for FAC for a rimfire for Rabbit shooting, currently looking at ruger 1022 or brno cz cheers Edited January 17, 2015 by islandgun
spandit
Given the choice (but owning neither) I'd go for the CZ A semi auto is noisier, more expensive to run (because it's so easy to empty a magazine!) and although the 10/22 is really customisable, I'm told out of the box the CZ is more accurate (and better looking) You'll also gain a little power with a bolt action as it doesn't expend energy cycling
Carman06
I will be interested to hear people's opinion on this for when I'm in same position later in the year.
69chris
iv got a 10 22, nice lil gun but tbh after using my hmr alot recently i wish i had got a bolt action 22 now - it never ends

snow white
I have two cz 445 in 22.both bolt action for the money I don't think you will get a better rifle.
Blunderbuss
Of the two the CZ, I'm assuming you mean a bolt action such as 452 or 455, not one of their semi autos?. The Ruger won't come close accuracy wise unless you spend a lot of money customising it. The CZ will shoot better than you can right out of the box, once you discover what ammo it prefers. They do benefit from a spring kit to improve the trigger though. If not the CZ, any quality bolt action from a European manufacturer would be my advice. Sako Finnfire, Weihrauch, Anschutz etc, I have a Weihrauch HW60J in .22LR and its a peach. More nicely finished and prettier than the CZ, but probably no more accurate (which is to say still very accurate). I previously owned a BRNO Model 2E, the predecessor to the modern CZ bolt actions. Very well made and very cheap to buy second hand. I also have a CZ 452 in .17 HMR, a lovely working tool but not quite as slick or nice to own as my Weirauch. rjimmer
When I got my BSA Super Sport Five in 1968, a friend bought a BRNO and I always wished I had done the same.

malkiserow
I bought an anchutz and could not be happier, super light and cheap. I have a Cz 452 in 17 hmr which is good but the Annie is a class finish. They are both accurate to a level better than me. If you have a Cz in 17 hmr, I'd strongly advise not to add another Cz in .22 lr as you are likely to one day take out the wrong magazine/bolt for the rifle. Voice of experience? Better than forgetting the bolt altogether which I've done. More than once
welshwarrior
Brno mod 2 for me same as CZ but a bit cheaper but still deadly accurate. Not mixed up my 22 and HMR mag either.

islandgun
seeing the letters WMR and LR on the cz 452 is one beneficial over another ?

Blunderbuss
seeing the letters WMR and LR on the cz 452 is one beneficial over another ? Different rounds. LR is "long rifle" the most common of the . 22 rimfires WMR is "Winchester Magnum Rimfire". A much pokier round, dearer ammo and probably a bit OTT as a run of the mill rabbit rifle. Blunderbuss
I'm a bit out of touch with prices but that sounds ball park ish. Check someone like Sportsman gun centre on line for an idea. If you're not wedded to the idea of a new gun, have a look at a BRNO 2 or 2E. Almost exactly the same thing, just a little older. Unless very badly neglected .22 barrels don't wear out. You'll get a sweet shooting rifle for around £100-150. More to spend on a nice scope and moderator. Try Wabbitbosher on here
