Guerini Guy
OK, so which way round do you do it? Personally, I always like to build the hide before I set out the decoys. My feeling is that just in case those lovely pigeons immediately decide to race towards the decoys like kamikaze pilots, then I can get in the hide quickly and be ready for 'em. But a question to the great and good on here . . . . . . . . what do you do?

kiffy
in a field its hide, then decoys and as my mates hiding the truck i load my gun the set everything up in the hide... always do that as ive had the birds come in as soon as hes in the truck. same with wildfowling, no truck to move but its hide first then decoys
matty*
Hide first. I forget about everything else whilst im sorting out the hide as the key to shooting any amount of pigeons is to get that hide in the rite place. Once i think ive done that the rest will follow. JDog
Only by looking out from your completed hide can you really appreciate where you want the pattern, how far out and what shape it should be and where you might place the rotary if you have one. Wilts#Dave
Hide first, I'd only rush like mad if I put the decoys out first and the pigeons were coming back in quickly as they do sometimes!!! I'm usually with the old man so he'll sort the hide while I do the decoys, best of both worlds then! Jdog is spot on re the decoy placement too. Dr D
Always hide first. Made a mistake once of doing it the other way round in winter. By the time the hide was sorted a few dozen had been in and away. Dohhhhhhh!
Cranfield
Same as everyone else, hide first.

Suffolkngood
Decoys............if I make the hide first and then go and put the deeks out, I can never find the hide again

Uncle Albert
It's obvious, ain't it! Unfold chair, stool or whatever, sit down and have a fag whilst your heartbeat gets back to something approaching rest. You've just carried half a ton of stuff across some boggy field in the hope of shooting some birds who will decide to up sticks and prognosticate in an orderly direction in the opposite direction, never to be seen again that day. motty
Id be surprised if anyone said decoys. Makes no sense that way round. Personally, I can't see that it makes that much difference!
fenboy
Personally, I can't see that it makes that much difference! Me niether If you put the decoys out then not too much is going to want to come in to them while you stand there building your hide and there is only going to be 5 mins or so between completeing the two tasks , its not going to ruin your day if you do not do it in a certain way . Columba Grey
Definitely hide first for all the right reasons...when the birds start coming I am then ready to shoot.
stoxs
All depends on where your hide will be! Around here we have some wide hedge rows/ woods. If i was shooting from there then i would pick a decent spot where a hide can be made from in the wood then lay decoys out then finnish building hide. If i was just using a net outside of hedgerow then hide first. Or when there is 2 of us using same hide it gets done at the same time!!
