Productive night on the foxes

I suspected that one of the farms where I shoot had a den but time and livestock, silaging etc had prevented me from having a good look. I decided to have a look Saturday night despite a full moon which I though may hamper my efforts. Arrived and had a quick check through the NV to align the IR to see three foxes in the corner of the field. Managed to get to a sensible position and shot the first adult and 2 of the cubs. Waited for another hour without seeing anything else so went for a quick wander around another part of the farm. Went for a final look before I went home and accounted for another adult and 2 more cubs. All shot with my Howa 1500 in .243 with a pulsar N750A night vision scope. Foxes were between 70-120 yards, all chest shot with 80 grain soft points. Not a bad way to spend a few hours, and a very happy farmer. I had to take the photo the next morning as I have a new phone and couldnt get it to take a photo at night......operator error as usual.

Nice work. How do you find the howa? I'm toying with the idea of purchasing one of the stainless barrelled packages in .243.

Cheers mate. Cant fault the Howa. I have a varmint barrelled, stainless, laminate thumbole version, heavy when lugging it around for 3 hours but an accurate rifle. When I had a day scope on it would group 3/4 " at 100 yards without to much problem (3 shot group). I would buy one again though would go for a lighter version.

Well done on the fox as for the howa i had a 22/250 very accurate i only got rid as part ex for my 243

Cheers bud.

Top work, not surprised the farmer was happy

Thanks mate. Farmer was a little surprised as he didnt realise they were there.

That's a cracking selection there well done, top job Fox control at its best . . :)

Can I ask do you shoot free hand or use sticks ??

Cheers bud. Generally I try and shoot prone where I can or off the top of something solid like a fence post, or the roof of my pickup.

Not often you see three on the deck at once. Well done.

Cheers U. Cubs dont seem to have the same perception/awareness of what that loud noise is compared to mum and dad. The first cub was sniffing at the dog fox and the second was only 5 yards away. Cubs 3 and 4 followed the same path and all were killed within 50 yards of each other.

Fantastic result mate , wish I could find some . Had a look out last night on cut grass and saw nothing :unhappy::unhappy:

Dont despair bud you will find them. I had a few hours out last night and also drew a blank. The farm where I shot the 6 have just cut 400 acres of silage so hopefully it will be crow time again. I have to keep my foxes well fed
