m greeny
Aye what aga man said just stick half in and just enjoy your shooting
henry931
1/4 is fairly forgiving, and in my gun works well out to 35-40 yards. For 40-50 yard shots I'd go up to half.
Redditch
Depends what shell you're using. If 28gr then 1/2 or full, 32gr, use 1/4 or half, 34gr use imp cyl or 1/4, and 36gr use cyl or imp cyl. Again, it depends on what shot size and what range you intend to be shooting at. Decoying close I use cyl / imp cyl, but distance Decoying I stick with 1/4 or 1/2. Mostly now, as close shots are few and far between, even with Decoying, I just stick to 1/2. But generally 1/4 to 1/2 will serve you well on most things
Tony G
Just to be different I shoot pigeons with a 3/8 Briley in my SX3
wymberley
Just to be different I shoot pigeons with a 3/8 Briley in my SX3 As we're talking a single barrel shot from a hide and assuming pigeon shot at the more normal decoy ranges, there's a lot to be said for a combination that actually shoots that pattern. motty
I use a Briley IM in my semi for pigeons. It's good for the short and the longer shots.
brett1985
3/8 Teague extended for me. dropped a 60 yard screamer yesterday, stone dead. bloody good constriction for decoying imho!
allanm
I use a Briley IM in my semi for pigeons. It's good for the short and the longer shots.Same as above ,in fact I use a briley I/m for everything
neutron619
I use a Briley IM in my semi for pigeons. It's good for the short and the longer shots. My IM is a boring old Browning factory choke but it shoots about ¾ / 65% / theoretical IM / whatever you want to call it. I chopped and changed for a year when I got the gun, then settled on IC. Birds came down OK but a fair few came down flapping. Played around some more (quite a bit with full choke) and eventually upped it to Modified and got fewer flappers. Upped again recently to IM as my shooting has improved and now most of them hit the deck without bouncing / flapping / protesting. I'm sticking with that now. Salop Matt
1/4 for decoying and 1/2 for roost shooting is what I have done for years but now even with OU I have gone 3/8ths in both and just get on with it, so you could try 3/8ths as someone else also said ATB Matt Edited August 3, 2015 by salop sniper
E.w.
I always use1/2 in the hide but it's horses for courses.
flycoy
Evening, most guns pattern differently, so pattern plate your auto on 1/2 and 3/4, with your favoured cartridge and see what's happening at 35 yrds you might be surprised what you find! fenboy
Normally use 3/4 or light full in mine , cannot say I have ever had a problem with "smashing" birds and I like to take on some longer ones.
Cambsman
1/4 is fairly forgiving, and in my gun works well out to 35-40 yards. For 40-50 yard shots I'd go up to half. So let's say full at 70 yds?

sishyplops
i've never used steel Motty but am i correct in thinking you choke down for steel?
dazb1967
3/8 Extended Teague in my A400, I haven't pattern tested it yet because I seem to be shooting quite well with it whatever cartridge I use.
fenboy
i've never used steel Motty but am i correct in thinking you choke down for steel? Steel throws a bit tighter pattern , but the smaller pellets are fine through a tighter choke , no reason at all you could not use half choke.
