pigeon controller
I picked up DB at 12.00 on Friday and we started to drive out to look for fresh wheat stubbles to shoot , after the third farm we had found nothing. As we were driving down the lanes we were stopped by a farmer who insisted that we go a shoot his standing bean as the birds were hitting it hard . Now we would not normally shoot beans till the end of September so this was a strange request. When we arrived at the field it was covered with hovering birds trying to drop in between the standing beans. Now the next question was how do we shoot it as we have birds all over . We managed to find a section which it looked like the seed drill ran out of seed and it gave us a clear section to shoot . So we set up with the normal twelve thawed birds ten on cradles in the standing beans a two on the magnet it was now 14.00 . The first birds in just veered away from the magnet , so we moved it close to the hide so they would be in range to shoot, even this did not make them decoy so we moved it out to the left of the hide slightly down wind but they still rejected the pattern so we took it down and we put two angels out in stead . They started to decoy well then and we had some good high shots as they spooked on the cradle birds and lifted off the beans . We shot till 18.00 and picked up one hundred and twenty birds, thirty of which went to the curry house with DB. Today we set out at 11.00 in our quest and looked at various farms all had pigeons on the stubble but no flight lines to the fields. We picked up on a flightline which we know can be productive and it lead us to four joined stubble fields with standing wheat around them. We counted approx eighty birds down but we know the flightline increases later in the afternoon so we phoned the farmer and had the OK. We set up with twelve fresh birds from the day before ten on spikes and two on the magnet. Which we took down after twenty minutes as the birds were spooking on it . We shot steadily till approx 16.30 when it went quiet for about fifteen minutes, then it went mad as we could hear five combines working around us , this must have spooked all the birds in the area and we had a manic last hour as we packed up at 18.00 . We picked up two hundred and thirty eight pigeons so it was a cracking days sport .

Dbw1shrops
Well done PC & DB another great weekend report 👍 I found this the other day that no matter where I put the magnet the birds were being spooked by it and I just couldn't seem to present the dead birds well on the arms I use one of those folding v wing spreaders with crocodile clips on the end and can't get the angle perfect on them Atvb Dave
