pigeon controller
Started out on Friday with the weather forcast as showers , so after an hour of looking in constant rain the showers looked favourable. After seeing birds under oaks and in small groups in paddocks we made our way to the only stubble fields we have left and these are well passed there best. As we scanned the fields we could not see any birds down but it had been raining hard . They were all in the trees with other birds joining so we set up and the rain stopped. We put out twelve thawed birds on cradles to start at 10.30 the first shot spooked all the birds off the trees and into the distance and in the first hour we had five return then it rained again which killed it until about 12.00. The rain stopped again and they went into a feeding frenzy which stopped at 15.00 and in that time we had shot ninety eight pigeons and four corvids. Saturday , the weather forcast was dire and if you went by it you would not get out of bed. We have done this before when the weather is forcast to be bad we have not gone out only to find that the day is dry and shootable. So we agreed to go out as normal , on our travels we had seen lots of birds feeding under oaks so we had a good look round and found about fifty under three oaks and spooked then off . DB wanted to look at the rape so we had a look and found some on the shorter rape we had. We then decided that the oaks were the best bet and possible the roost. So we drove back to the farm we had seen the birds feeding under the oaks and set up under the middle tree. When we returned we spooked about fifty of the trees so in hindsight we should have set up when we saw them earlier. It was now 11.30 and the rain started but we had fixed the brolly up behind the hide and we were dry and birds started to return to our pattern which was ten birds on cradles and two angels . We shot together until about 14.30 when DB decided to go and shoot the roost and left me to shoot the decoys and pack up . I stopped shooting at 15.30 in near darkness with the birds still decoying . I finished with sixtyfour pigeons and DB had twentythree at roost which was a great result for a constant wet day. Editors Note:- I managed to delete the pictures of my birds when I loaded them on the PC????

pigeon controller
Very interesting. How do you set up for birds that are on acorns? Find them feeding under an oak tree and place your decoys around the base and shoot them when they come close.

kippylawkid
Class result again. The fact that you even ventured out in the rain puts many of us in the also-ran category.
