955i
As above the free upgrade is now available for my computer. Can anyone who has done this let me know if I will los anything (files/programs) during the install or is it just plug and play with everything still in place? Thanks
B391
No if you follow instructions. I have upgraded about 4 latops and 3 tablets. They have all run smoother and quicker after the upgarde to W10 and the Edge browser. Note - you will probably have a day or two as the updates catch up and then you will have it all sorted. B391
ah, yes that is a good point, search Google there are a few privacy setting you might want to change and also the auto update settings for using your PC/laptop as a 'server' to update other devices on your network. amateur
I had to update my HP printer driver because the printer only printed in black and white, but now works fine. Windows 10 also has issues with my very old copy of Quicken 98, but I can get round them. Generally it was simple to install and much faster to use than the W7 that I had before. . rjimmer
I wish XP was still supported. I used to 'mostly' used use Firefox, now I have Windows 10, I 'always' use it(Firefox that is). Edited November 29, 2015 by rjimmer
B391
I have one more laptop to upgrade to W10. It's for an 89yr old, it's been bad enough getting her used to W7 and Outlook. I think W10 will provide a few more challenges for her! She still lets go of the mouse when she wants us press a button and stabs at it and wonders why it doesn't work. Apparently there are all sorts of 'gremlins' in the laptop.......and absolutely nothing to do with her ability to use it! We have to have a lot a patience with her and keep telling her things over and over again. Hey ho
malmick
I wish XP was still supported. I used to 'mostly' used use Firefox, now I have Windows 10, I 'always' use it. I've just upgraded an old XP laptop that I'd put a spare copy of W7 home onto on the demise of XP support. W10 has rejuvenated this machine and I'm now going to upgrade my dad's W8 laptop. The return to the start menu has clinched it for MS imho and my dad is 85 and found the move from XP quite a challenge. Cheers, Mick
lord_seagrave
I upgraded about three months back, and everything is there. W10 is so much easier to use than whatever the laptop came with (W8?). Things seem to be in the right place. LS
BerettaSV10
If you follow the instructions it keeps all your files.I upgraded when it was realeased gave up on it as to many fatal errors and went back to win 7. As the win 10 1511 build is out now, down loaded the image file and did a clean instal wiping the hard drives. So far the 1511 build is looking pretty good After installing it check all the privacy settings.
Pheasant Feeder
Just done the upgrade and its going to take a not so techno savy bloke like me a while to find my way around everything! First problem: when I type the key on my keyboad that is @ , I get " yet when I press " I get @ How the hell do I sort that out?? Also I've just had to reinstall firefox and have subsequently lost all my bookmarks Oh and all my documents and photo's are squat under my user profile on the C drive instead of the desktop where they started. Ask me again in about 3 months time and I might be singing its praises.

Marki
I'd be interested in how people get on. Unfortunately I've got an Enterprise edition of windows 7 so doesn't look like I can upgrade for free.
ehb102
I got my Dad to upgrade on the grounds that he should just go with the majority. Nightmare! He couldn't get on with it, so rolled it back. Then it took me hours to undo the mess. He doesn't do anything particularly difficult, but he wanted to use an email client not a browser. Ttfjlc
Just be careful as SWMBO did the update and I had trouble with 'treasure track' taking up about an inch of the screen. Turns out it was a program that monitors what websites you visit and provides links to things it deems relevant, in the end I googled it and turned out I just had to uninstall it from the control panel. FalconFN
I was on W8, which I hated, so the upgrade to W10 has been very welcome. Had a few small issues with compatibility but nothing major and a quick search found an equally quick solution.
955i
Seems fine so far, few clicks in another place but nothing I can't get my head round. All good so far

Unfortunately I've got an Enterprise edition of windows 7 so doesn't look like I can upgrade for free. Just my take: you ain't missing much.Tried Win 10 for a few weeks and in fairness preferred it to Win 8/8.1,tweaked privacy settings and used "classic shell":it worked OK apart from some driver issues but,for my usage, offered no advantage to Win 7. grrclark
The question rather ought to be "will I gain anything through an upgrade to Windows 10?" rather that what will I lose.
bruno22rf
Edge is pants-adblock is not available for the program yet so, unless you like hundreds of ads, make IE your default browser.
Psyxologos
I was offered the upgrade a year ago as abeta tester. I declined it then and still don't want windows 10 anywhere near my devices. Many reasons for that, some technical, some personal.
MrM
Upgraded my tablet from Windows 8 - Windows 10 - IMO much better layout once you have got used to where things are. Make sure you go through the privacy settings though - it dumped my files up into One Cloud which I didn't want!
BerettaSV10
Been running the latest vers 1511 on a clean install, seams more stable than the initial release. Found that some web sites don't work as they are asking for plug in's which are installed, even when switching over to IE or chrome. :(
