Don't become disabled!

It's well known that the government/parliament have had to make cuts to just about everything except MP's salaries, and the benefits budget is no exception.

The old system of DLA has been superceded by PIP, and the threshold for qualification was tightened up to try to stop the ne'er do wells from claiming for something they are not really entitled to. No problems with that. BUT, they now want to start making changes to the PIP system that hasn't even come into force in many parts of the country yet!

They are now trying to trim an extra £1bn+ off the disability budget - which to me is a big number, but not when compared to all the money we waste on overseas aid helping all the "disadvantaged" people of the world to live better lives, whether they want us to or not; not to mention all the other money we waste on every new harebrained idea that comes along to replace the old outdated harebrained ideas that didn't work either. Do you see where I'm going here?

How about our own disadvantaged people? Don't they count? No, of course not. We're British, and made of sterner stuff. We will just roll over and die quietly without making any fuss or bother so we don't inconvenience anybody - which is possibly what will happen to many of the +/- 600,000 people who will be affected by these changes. mad.gif.pagespeed.ce.vKvXV_z4ci.gifmad.gif.pagespeed.ce.vKvXV_z4ci.gif

Am I annoyed? Me? Nooo .................... I'm totally apoplectic, which admittedly is not unusual for me, but I'm just slightly more apoplectic than usual after hearing these latest proposals from our non-caring government. Is there no end to their penny wise and pound foolish schemes? No, hang on, don't answer that. I wasn't thinking straight for a moment.

Squeezing the PIPs!

Under different circumstances, that might be funny, but there are a lot of folks who jumped through all the governments hoops and qualified for the "new, improved, fairer" PIP benefit who won't be laughing.

Calm down, my sister is one of those affected.

Then I sympathise with her, but telling people to 'calm down' will hardly help to make people lives any better.

This government clearly cares less about its own people than it does for the rest of the world, and the amount of money they will recoup from this new proposal is a drop in the ocean compared to the amount that is being spent supporting countless thousands of 'economic migrants' people who are making their way here.

Pip has nothing to do with supplying "AIDS and appliances" whatsoever, that's a different allowance paid in grant form which I can't remember the name of, last time the chancellor tried to change pip he was vetoed and put in his place by the House of Lords and told to leave it well alone, I think its a disabled facilities grant that pays for new showers, toilets, grab rails and wheelchairs so either the press is confused or Osborne has spent the weekend with a sex worker and big pile of cocaine again and got himself all confused. The new pip made it clearer and easier for disabled people to claim by removing grey areas and focusing on how your disability affected your day to day life rather than what was wrong with you. Also DLA or PIP is not means tested, the multimillionaire prime minister who owns several homes claimed DLA or PIP for his disabled son. I recon too many multi millionaires also claim pip to let him get away with messing with it.

I'm on PIP-what they forget to mention is the application process...Applied in April 2014 and finally got an interview in March 2015....you get nothing till you have been interviewed.

Go to your MP, the more people who do and get this raised in parliament the more pressure that will be put on the government to sort this mess out

Could you explain this bit for me please?

From January 2017, it is likely to hit people with incontinence or those who struggle to dress themselves and will affect 640,000 people by 2020. The changes could cut more than £1.2bn from the welfare bill by reducing “points” for mobility problems, which claimants need to add together to qualify for the living costs fund.

Disabled people must be awarded eight points to be paid standard PIP but the change means people will only earn one point if they have to use aids like a handrail or walking stick.

There was a bloke

I know nothing about this new legislation however with the amount of Mickey takers they need to do something, I'm sick of paying for people who can't be bothered to go to work, although obviously do not want to see anyone genuine disadvantaged by it.

Its tricky, there is a member of my family who is a professional invalid.

the amount of "mickey takers " is neglegible, don't believe the hype, its all rubbish to get peoples sympathy whilst they look after their own interests

Why then do you see folk with blue badges park up and walk unaided in to the supermarket and such. Admittedly some walk slowly (whether put on or not I don't know) but they seem to manage quite well. Are these folk genuinely unable to do ANY work? Surely if you can walk 50 yds to the shop, then spend time in there pushing a trolley full of shopping then you can walk round a warehouse picking orders, or sit at a desk in a call centre or serve behind a counter.

Or is this menial work below them ? While you see this day in and day out is it any wonder there's no sympathy ?

I fall in the above category as my condition is very variable ranging from bedridden to being just about able to get about at a slow pace and as I don't have any outwardly visible diasabilities ,I do get people moaning and having a go.they don't see me gasping for breath and having ambulances on a regular basis.on a good day I can do things but I take so long doing it no employer is going to keep me when there's more able bodies available.

So I have no alternative but to claim DLA,But I know when I get my PIP claim form in I will lose my Motability car and probabily my carer as well.

So what can I do,

FYI I have Brittle Asthma, sarcoidosis in my lungs, stage three kidney failure, and almost completely deaf.

Not after sympathy just making a point.

Cheers. Vulture

I did not think the government gave any poorly people any money anymore, they changed the criteria for any type of suport.

And called all people in and removed them off benefits other than the seeking work benefit everyone is entitled to i think.

A woman i know in her mid 30s , a widow for two years with three small children . Was diagnosed with MS , she had to give up her receptionists job just before her husband was killed, she was falling down at work all over the place.

She was put on some sort of dissability benefit, and then her husband was killed in a car crash.

Within 2 months of his death, the pension people called her in for an interview a nurse saw her, and did some set tests which resulted in her being able to look for employment and imediatley stoped her money.

Next thing the house is on the market, and her parent both just retired had an extention built for her and the kids, the money she got from the sale of the house just about covered the extention work.

Last i heard she was very ill and her parents are taking care of the three children. No benefits are given to that family at all not one penny.

The parents are not entitled to any money because they have savings above the threshold the government set.

Terrible it is sad to see them go through this.

I now know that 'Care in the Community' really means 'Do it yourself'.

I am The Memsahibs full time carer. She is physically and mentally disabled.

We are not rich by any stretch of the imagination.

We get her attendance allowance of £89 (ish) per week and I have just managed to get a one off payment of £500 towards paying for carers so that I can get a few hours off now and then. (£500 doesn't pay for many hours I can tell you).

We are deemed to be to rich and to old for any financial or physical help. (When your old and retired you have nothing else to do anyway).

So both our lives have ground to a staggering halt.

She sits in the chair and sleeps all day and I sit and watch her when I'm not doing all the household tasks.

For a shopping trip I rely on friends and neighbours to sit with her.

Care in the Community is just a very bad joke.

One thing Gandalf i did not mention, and i may help you was MC millan nurses, the parents are tying to get help through Mcmillans to help with her needs cleaning her etc, it is curntly in the application stage but they are hoping they can help them. I am not trying to pry in to your affairs mister but it might be you may get some help from mcmillans it sounds like you have a case with what you are both going through. Just a thought hope you dont mind me saying.

But in percentage terms they are small. Benefit cheats cost the Government about £1b, companies not paying their taxes is roughly about £35b

I claim no authenticity for the figures as I haven't the time to look them up.

I don't want to tar a whole area with the same brush but the area that I refer to has one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe and the benefits system is regarded as a running joke there, I can assure you that the amount of people on the fiddle is not insignificant. I must add however that I do feel very sorry for the genuine cases and that they should be supported, it is almost impossible to do however, as the saying goes it's not what you know but what you can prove and that's the problem of separating the genuine from the cheats.

We have been through four up till now, supposed to be run by doctors/specialists, total joke, each time a glorified secretary who has to constantly look in the medical dictionary for reference & spelling.
