There are those on this forum who say that they can pick up any gun be it right handed, left handed, cross over stock or whatever and shoot well with it. I am not one of them.

 

There are those of this forum who say that it really doesn't matter which cartridges they use, be it steel, bismuth, Television x (sorry competition x), clay cartridges, goose cartridges, Rhinocerous cartridges or whatever and still shoot well with them. I am not one of them.

 

This past ten days I have travelled over 350 miles looking for opportunities to decoy a few on drillings without success. Until today that is when my good friend Mightymariner took me to one of his favourite farms. He had had a call from the owner saying that he had started to drill on some of his heavier land but had to stop as the drill was spending more time distributing seed on the surface than it was under the soil. What better for the avid decoyer? Once there of course we immediately disagreed where we should go and in the end I chose to go in the shelter of a thick blackthorn hedge rather than the exposed position he was guiding me towards. At my age every little comfort is a help.

 

For the last year I have been unable to get any Hull Superfast HV pigeon cartridges. These have long been my favourites and I do not shoot well with anything else. Today I had a slab of the things. The first bird was a complete miss and from then on I shot some real beauties including two doubles that even Motty, Smokersmith and Yickdaz would have been proud of. Not much decoyed but tried to pass me by and some paid the penalty. I picked slightly more than I expected.

 

If I can get them... I would use nothing else.

I like the superfasts also though I do happily use other cartridges my favourite being the Fiocchi pigeon 32.

One I cannot get on with however is gamebore clear pigeon , yet plenty swear by it , I just swear at it !

Absolutely cracking shell, right price point for pigeons and confidence inspiring all round characteristics. Not to mention they are just as good come game season which in my opinion is exactly why the stop producing them in the latter half of the year.

Nice work pal, glad all your travel wasn't in vein. I went out with a friend on one of his perms today and had a decoy over drilled beans, shot about 40 between us but had a laugh (well he did when I missed a sitter in the pattern). Keep it up !!
