sako751sg
Will try a link to the full legislation and will hopefully work. Cheers to SACS for the info. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi/2016/188/contents/made

hyflier
Wow! I suppose we shouldn't be surprised, I think we suspected this was a ploy to reduce air gun ownership in Scotland and that's a sure way to go about it. £72.00 for a certificate to hold an air rifle though? I hope this law doesn't migrate to England.

sako751sg
May as well go fac air Absolutely. Was speaking to a couple of folk who have airguns only and i think we will find there will be a fair increase in FAC numbers.

sako751sg
As an aside, I did try to fix the original post in this thread but I've no idea what went wrong either. Thanks for that,i did send a PM to Cranfield,i think,to say to delete and i would start again but its ok now ive put a link up hopefully.I tried to edit and remove the original but i couldnt make anything of it. The sliding scale of fee:age seems very ??? Aye,pretty ridiculous stuff but we shouldnt really expect anything else really.
robbiep
Regarding the fees : it only makes sense if, for a person aged 14-17, the certificate expires at the age of 18, as they would not need to be under supervision at that point, so the person would need to apply for a new certificate. It must be said, it really does appear to be horrendously organised. A lack of clear information, confusing fee structure. Looking through the link, it doesn't even seem to specify how long a certificate lasts for ?
dougall
blimey...what a mess.would think the fees fall foul of EU legislation on age discrimination grounds too..........will there be border checks if say an English bloke was visiting Scotland with an airgun?.. robbiep
It's insane. Though that's not surprising, with that bunch of nutters in charge. Just imagine someone who owns or shoots on a farm straddling the border - especially if they live in England. They can't apply to Police Scotland for a certificate, as they aren't under jurisdiction. They can't apply to their own force in England, as no such certificate exists in law. A visitor's permit would obviously be ludicrous, as it's intended for a single visit to the country concerned, much like a current visitor's permit for SGC/FAC. How would such a person be able to shoot airguns legally, on a regular basis, in the Socialist Republic of Scotland ?

saddler
...will there be border checks if say an English bloke was visiting Scotland with an airgun?.. Aye. B&Q are supplying the garden sheds - one for each road entry point into the Republik Sniffer dags are being sponsored by LUSH cosmetics Each vehicle will be fully strip searched & any illegal airguns found will be scrapped & the drivers given two years hard labour (any illegal immigrants found will be given a council flat & a £25K p/a benefits package) Expect what the SNP have categorised as "minor delays"* on the main roads into Scotland from 1st January '17 *no more than three days (off-peak periods), three weeks during the Fringe. Hail to Fish Face!!
Longbower
Yes , every driver using a mobile phone is bound to also have an illegal airgun in their boot ! With the police being able to detect what percentage of both ???
deershooter
Has this done away with the 12 foot pounds limit or is anything above still FAC ?
saddler
New rules are for normal sub-12ft/lb air-rifles....
secretagentmole
New rules are for normal sub-12ft/lb air-rifles.... So most people will re equip with FAC as no advantage to having a sub 12 or they will simply not bother registering!
mick miller
What you get if a devolved populous elects a former Leninist and his mates. The whole devolution thing is a compete crock, it just ends up costing the ordinary people three times as much (factor in the Welsh assembly - whose left leaning tendencies mean that this bunch of ill conceived clap trap will be readily received there). dougall
love Scotland always have always will......but boy they have let the lunatics take over.........administering this airgun legislation is going to be a total waste of time and resource.I have no problem with the law jumping over anyone who misuses an air rifle but all this mess due to 2 complete idiots is crazy. Think you'll need to buy a permit @ £20 OR apply for a certificate This SACS pdf gives an intersting read on this matter think Sako might have tried posting this? http://www.sacs.org.uk/images/SACS%20AIRGUN%20FAQs_1464875633007.pdf Edited June 3, 2016 by Andra
Dekers
FAC may be an option for some with these fees, but I still see a small take up and hundreds/thousands remaining unregistered.
