My daughter's best friend has died

Oh so gutted guys my 11 year old daughter put her dog in the kitchen when she went to muck out her pony. Turned pony out in manège didn't realise someone had let dog out unwittingly.

She saw the pony kick the dog in her words 'he dropped and looked like a stuffed toy'

Rushed him to the vets and he died two hours later. Heartbreakingly and I know it seems a bit Disney but he hung on until she had insisted on going to see him again later and died five mins after.

Nothing like seeing your little girl stagger out of the vets with her dead dog wrapped in a blanket in her arms.

She's broken. He was her best friend in the world for five years. Nothing nor anyone came close.

After a mad ring around today she now has a dead ringer for her dog as a pup again but can't come to terms with it understandably. I don't know what to do. Any tips?

Thanks all xx

Having a daughter of the same age i can totally understand how bad this tragic situation has affected her. I am with fenboy here and would recommend replacing the dog as soon as the greiving subsides.

Can't give any further advice at this stage, good luck and sorry to hear about this.

I'm currently letting her stay up as late as she likes tonight in the hope she's so shattered she sleeps.. She has her new pup out playing with it so although she wasn't too keen in the first instance I hope they're bonding...

I am so sorry. I have no words of advise only my sympathy. I have a daughter the same age and if we lost Fern my youngest Springer she would be in bits. They are always together doing something.

I can't imagine how upset your daughter is, I really hope she bonds with the new pup and they become life long pals.

Very sorry indeed to hear this sad news Ali. My thoughts are with your daughter, you and the rest of your family. I hope she is now bonding well with her new puppy, it's the right direction to go in and time is a great healer as people have said previously. Very best wishes to you all for future happiness with the pup.
