Houseplant
I'm not sure if anyone else will find this of benefit, but spent a little more time on the "range" with my unmodified CZ452 yesterday. Conclusions: 1. Winchester subs are OK, but not as good as CCI. 2. I've definitely had a bad batch of CCI subs. It was hard to close the bolt on them and groupings were not as good as usual with more fliers. Glad their gone! 3. I still can't make subs work for me beyond 50 metres. It's not just the drop, it's the groupings. Happy to accept that it's my marksmanship though. 4. Retried CCI mini-mags. What a cracking round in all senses! Point and shoot to 75 metres and good groupings, but bloody hell, what a racket. I couldn't get good groupings even with these at 100 metres, again happy to accept it's my marksmanship. 5. Can't really chop and change between subs and mini-mags, the zero is close, but not good enough for me. I was hoping to zero the subs for 50m, use subs most of the time and keep a few mini-mags on me for when a longer shot presented itself. 39TDS
Have you tried Eley subs? My CZ likes them yet my old BRNO just threw them all over the place.
Vince Green
I belong to a club where they do a lot of 'action' shooting with .22s Mostly 10/22s but the CZs are coming in fast. What is interesting is the vast differences in opinion among owners about which ammo works best. This person loves A but hates B, next person says the reverse. The boxes in the bin are every type of .22 ammo imaginable.
Houseplant
Have you tried Eley subs? My CZ likes them yet my old BRNO just threw them all over the place. I've heard good things about Eley from this forum and others, but can't get them AFAIK, been looking for a while :( What is interesting is the vast differences in opinion among owners about which ammo works best. This person loves A but hates B, next person says the reverse. True, I've heard the same thing. My mate who has the same gun, albeit older with a longer barrel loves Winchester subs. My 452 does not! Grandalf
My 22LR is the same model as yours. My bolt wont close on any CCI round. Just loves Eley subs like 39TDS. Pity you can't get them.
Scully
I use mostly Winchester subs through mine, or Eley subs. The rabbits and rooks don't know the difference and have never complained.

Houseplant
Just to be clear, CCI are my rifles preferred fodder, but I definitely had a bad batch. I used the bad ones up on the range and it's back to business as normal. Wish I could try some Eleys though. Thegogg
Everyone told me that the Anschutz 1415 .22LR prefer Eley subs so I travelled 50 miles to buy 500 as all the local shops around here don't stock them. Typical, mine didn't like them but thankfully it loved the 40g winnie subs and even better it also likes the new 42g winnie subs, a cracking round Edited July 24, 2016 by Thegogg
Patrol
I use Eley subs in my CZ 455 at fifty yards it's a ragged hole. Perfection no other word for it the CZ loves em, My other 22 Weihrauch HW 60 j I use CCI segmented out to ninety yards bang on the button not had one flyer in thousands of rounds Only thing with the Eley subs, clean the rifle after each use don't let the lubricant build up or you could have a night spoilt because of a non ejected round it gets a bit gooey where the case is Apart from that I find them two rounds spot on for me Patrol Edited July 25, 2016 by Patrol
TONY R
My ancient 452 loves the old eley subsonic extra plus ammo, i am running worryingly low on these old time ammo, are the newer eley subs compatable to these or are they different, i managed to find a thousand two years ag when i was getting low before but dont think i will find any more of the old subsonic exta pluses now. toxo
My 1417 goes through phases. Win subs, CCI subs and RWS subs are all very good to OK depending on how she's feeling. Fiocchi and Aguila are useless.
old man
Try RWS hollow points if you see them. Best of all in my 452.
TONY R
Try RWS hollow points if you see them. Best of all in my 452. A few have mentioned these, i did buy some about ten years back RWS 50s i think they were called a blue box kind of rings a bell, I tried them and in my 452 they were not bad but worse than old white box 40 gr winchesters, my 452 is eley subsonic extra plus then winchester and then strangely enough PMC moderators not seen any of them for years they were quiet but seemed slow i never chronoed them. I might re visit the RWS 50s again.
Savhmr
I use a Ruger all-weather 77/22 bolt action and have shot sub-moa groups at 100 yards with Eley subs (best group was 0.75 inches) in still conditions. Switching to Remingtons, that opened up to 6 inches. The Remingtons I find aren't even suitable for plinking....a complete waste of money and time, so I'll be reverting to Eley subs or Winchesters. Both work well. Tried RWS but couldn't get on with those in my rifle. The big mistake that I made was to clean the 22 after about 500 rounds. That opened up groups considerably. I wont be making that mistake again. Whilst my CFs get cleaned after every outing, the 22 is best left well alone until groups start to suffer a bit. Just a clean around the chamber and bolt is all they need. I have more confidence at the minute in my air rifle to 40 yards than the 22LR with Remington subs. I can achieve better accuracy and precision with the air rifle at those distances using Accupels. Rabbiting this weekend and the 22LR is being left at home.
