lakeside1000
Last night I took my dear lady wife to our local casino for a meal, the restaurant is just so good, As we signed in there was a group of middle aged 'gentlemen' in plus 4's waiting to sign in as well, we pondered on the reason they were still dressed in their 'country gear' but the smell of the food drew us away to our table, some time later , after the meal we moved into the gaming room where these 'gents ' were standing around the bar, My wife couldn't contain her curiosity any longer and asked one of them if they had been out shooting or something else, he replied they had been on a pheasant shoot nearby , to which my wife said " oh my husband has been out all day shooting as well" The man looked around at me enquiringly so I added 'not pheasants, I'm a wildfowler who also loves pigeon shooting' He looked down his nose as if he had just trodden in something nasty and asked if I had any luck, I began to describe my day only to notice his friends grinning among themselves, he nodded knowingly and turned his back to me at which point they all began talking amongst themselves. I grunted and walked away, my wife uttered loudly ' stuck up snobs', next time you will have to wear some silly short trousers and woolly knee length socks, they might talk to you then. We laughed loudly as we walked out. So much for breading and good manners, bunch of ******.

Walker570
Yep, they're about. Not all like that fortunately, but they give the rest of us a bad name. Costs nothing to be friendly and civil. Probably up from 'The Smoke' had a day off from their computer screens. I've been fortunate over the many years I have shot driven birds to have shared days with Lords and their ladies, some very wealthy people and have been made very welcome and treated as one of them. I have come up against the occasional type you met and they are more than often ...ooops nearly got a slapping there ...VERY awful shots. You know the type, haven't got it but try to prove they have. Had a fantastic day at Godwick Hall a couple of weeks ago. The team were made up of locals who were all old friends with each other , mostly retired or semi retired businessmen and farmers. My wife and I were total strangers, but after ten minutes in the kitchen for a coffee and a dram to draw pegs we were treated like old friends. Average age on the gun cart was 74.7yrs and shot a return of 2.6 to one. Not bad for a bunch of old zimmer pushers . Glad your wife told them what for, hope they heard. To answer your question. Yes you are ... a lot different, I'm pleased to say. The look on beaters and pickers ups faces when at the end of a day, I go across and thank them for providing a great day, shake a few hands before we leave, has to be seen. I do it every time. Without their hard work we would not have a day and I see some guns who ignore them as if there was a nasty smell. Whitebridges
Heathen peasants. Fancy wearing tweed in a casino ? Was it in Gt. Yarmouth ? What no tuxedo?
Grandalf
wear some silly short trousers and woolly knee length socks, they might talk to you then. So much for breading and good manners, bunch of ******. I also frequently wear silly short trousers and woolly knee length socks. I have also been a dedicated fowler for nigh on 60 years when I don't wear them... Please don't think all game shooters behave like that. Davyo
Can't understand this dressing up bit,I can understand modern smart dress but this shorts and socks business that just makes you looks like you've just stepped of the set of Downton Abbey lol.6 Maybe it's a boy scout thing. Bit lucK one of them will have one to many and get pulled over with a SG in the boot & an empty hip flask. I suppose it's a bit like dressing up for Halloween. It's the same when you go to gamefairs, head to foot in tweed they are on a baking hot day, Edited November 5, 2016 by Davyo

Grandalf
Some of us have 'dressed up' for game shooting all of our lives. It is what we do and have always done and always will. You don't Davyo - And nobody will ever make you - So be happy with that. Tradition is what keeps this country going. If I can't wear a tie and my shooting breeks then I don't think I would go. But I'm a nice bloke - Honest...

Blackpowder
People forget that plus fours , breeks or what ever you care to call them have a practical purpose. They have been around since before rubber knee boots, their function not to make you look posh, or silly or make you a better shot. They are to prevent wet trousers flapping around your ankles.
