Thunderbird
I'm moving out into the sticks next week and there ain't much light where I'm going, so I want to torch myself up. I've already got a couple of Maglites, and one or two other things knocking about, but I reckon my torch collection needs an overhaul. I know many of you are always on the lookout for good value / good quality torches, so recommendations would be welcome. I quite fancy those with hanging hooks on, for woodshed etc. I had a look at some 'AA' ones going in the Shell garage today for £5.99 and to be honest they looked awful. Cranfield
There are a number of "tilley lamp" style electric lamps about and they take rechargeable batteries, I have these for power cuts, etc. I strongly recommend that anything you look at should take rechargeable batteries. wandringstar
I live in the sticks, its the most depressing thing not having streetlights, winters are longer.
Medic1281
I live in the sticks and the best thing is not having street lights. I believe it's meant to go dark at night!!
kyska
I'm also in the sticks, day to day I use a Coleman rechargeable dual lantern/torch. I keep battery torches too

wandringstar
maybe you don't have light bulbs indoors then either. I am not a lover of pitch black nights. A few years ago, before I came, the council wanted to put some in, but the residents objected. Seems I am alone with this.
Dougy
Its not that I am against street lighting, but the light pollution nowadays is just about countrywide, I remember when they 1st put street lights down the lane I lived, I shot the one closest to our house. figgy
Just woke up looked at this topic and read It as I need to get touched up moving into the countryside, thought he must be off to Norfolk. Get yourself plenty of rechargeable batteries for whatever you buy. Fit plenty of LED floodlights around your property.
Muddy Funker
A head torch will also come in useful.
Thunderbird
I was thinking of going rechargeable for some of the kit. Like I said I quite like the idea of a few of those inspection type ones with a hook on. I'll look at your recommendations guys, thank you. walshie
Make sure to leave one and a hi-viz in the car in case you break down. Those dark roads can be lethal.

Nick_MSM
There are some cracking led torches on eBay at the moment for around £1 delivered!! 3w led bulb, won't light up a field but useful anyway. They come from China so delivery takes a few weeks but I am amazed how good they are for the money.
