Archie-fox
So I've just done a inspection on a house I rent out and I'm gobsmacked.. The house is filthy, it's clear she hasn't vaced up once or wiped down any surfaces, the bathroom nearly made me vomit!!! Although there is no damage to anything it's just horrendously dirty and not cared for...I wouldn't mind but she owns several shops and is really nice and attractive but behind closed it's a different story.. should I say anything to her or just leave it till the tenancy expires and look at it again? I've got a deposit so I guess I could take £200 off it when she leaves for a deep clean or something..
Twistedsanity
The woman we rented to did around 8k of damage to a newly decorated house, professional company did the inventory, loads of photos and a deposit held with another company, after 4 months and filling in a 17page document we were awarded £800 for the repairs and she got the rest back, good luck with yours! Archie-fox
Are you sure she isn't sub letting? That was my first thought but her clothes were there (all over the floor) and pics of her and her family on the walls and shelf..
TIGHTCHOKE
Is there anything within your tenancy agreement that requires her to be tidy?
Archie-fox
Is there anything within your tenancy agreement that requires her to be tidy? Just that when I take possession of the house it has to be in the same state as I let it out to her..
Rupert
Get rid, plenty of decent tenants out there, be mice and rats in next.neighbours complaining. She will just mess it up till she cant stand it no more and move on. You wont be able to rest easy now you know about it.

Archie-fox
Was it a no notice inspection? Went round to fix a door handle that had become loose..just needed screwing back on again..it used to do it when I owned the house and lived in it. kyska
Send notice of a landlord inspection, go round and see what it's like then or just give her her notice to leave Edited February 9, 2017 by kyska
TIGHTCHOKE
As Kyska says, give notice, make it official and send it registered so that she signs for it. If it is still a tip tell her to move on for failing to look after your property and the surrounding area. The neighbours will soon be complaining if ii continues. walshie
As long as she has it back how it should be when the tenancy is over, I can't see a problem.
Lloyd90
If she's got kids I'd sent a referral to social services. Surely not a good place for them to live. I doubt it would meet any sort of threshold but might give her a shunt to tidy the bloody place up.

Ah thought she would have when you said she had pics of her family up etc. Tell the environmental health to go round? The state some people live in is beyond comprehension! sportsbob
I am not jumping to her defence here but perhaps she is working all the hours that god sends to pay a rent she cant afford. Were you invited to fix the door handle without here presence or did you just let yourself in.

AVB
There is no excuse for being filthy. It doesn't take time to pick things up or have a quick wipe around. You have to do it eventually. I have only rented once for a relatively short period. Hated it but kept the place spotless (or I should say the wife did). My dad was a plumber so used to go in houses all day long. He had a strong opinion that people of certain professions had filthy houses. I won't say what they were as it was his opinion and I don't want to generalise in the way that he did but in my, lesser, experience he wasn't wrong. wandringstar
I did a holiday rental once in florida, via the landlord direct in England, it worked on the principle that the last holidaymakers got it ready for the next, it dident work though, the pull-down sofa had been puked on and it stank to high heaven, filth everywhere, and no-one to turn to. never again, I put cleanliness over everything else, joe public are scum I am afraid, a lot of the time. Vince Green
Don't really see a problem except she lives her life differently to you. Lots of people live like that, ask anyone who's job takes them into other people's houses. As long as she pays the rent its just one of those things
JDog
There should be a 'clean and tidy' clause in a standard Shorthand Tenancy Agreement.
wandringstar
vince, you are mistaken in thinking its a freedom of choice issue, its an issue of someone inflicting their anti-social filth, on another unsuspecting person who was letting them use their home. It costs nothing to be clean, decent and tidy, just a bit of effort and principles.
