Smoke Free July 1st

What's your opinions on the subject. I Supervise a factory of 25 employees and know I am going to have problems with certain people. Two company's that do work for us have already implemented a no smoking ban, trouble is every time we go to pick up work in the lorry they all run out to help load up and a chance of a fag.... :good::lol:

:good: The company I work for already implements a smoking ban but intends to extend it to cover company vans and cars. I gave up two days ago despite having four hundred fags in the cupboard.

Company we carry out maintenance for is banning smoking in its car park so its staff will have to stand in the road to smoke. Funny that the MD doesnt smoke

BRING IT ON!!! :good::lol::lol:

We've had it at work for a while, they all used to congrate at the end of the carpark though (which didn't look good) so they were allowed to go back to their outdoor bunker/bike shed! Its rather sad when they're all out there getting hammered by the driving rain!

Used to smoke myself, but realised the error of my ways, stinky, flithy habit...will be nice to go out and come home NOT stinking of fags. About time, they've had it they're way harming others health for far too long!

No doubt going to evoke some emotional responses...just one man's opinon!

It can't come soon enough in my opinion, why should I have to come home after a night out stinking of smoke? I mean having half a kebab down your shirt and a hangover in the morning is my choice, stinking of someone elses filthy habit isn't.

Filthy habit.......but be aware...as my old departed grandad used to say, "if they invented smoking and alcohol 2moro then they would ban it the next day." First the fags(i'm a non smoker who hates the things) then in a few years time it will be the beer......never in a million years did I ever think I would see smoking banned in public.......just counting down the years(thankfully) before drinking in public(in pubs......I don't hang out around the local co-op with my 4 cans of spec) is banned.

It will happen....should take long enough though to see me in the grave(or the mantlepiece) before it happens....thank ****

I smoked from about 16 to about a month ago. Nothing I did had anything to do with the ban.

I couldn't give a **** what people think, I love, like most people, me :good:

I will live longer, like anyone who doesn't smoke. Join me, or I will prove you wrong

Seems a bit harsh insome cases.

I am an "ex" smoker who was fortunate enough to be able to have a fag or two then go without until the next time I went out to the pub.

IMHO it should be upto the landlord whether to allow smoking in his pub or not. Everyone has the choice to either go in or not go in.

We are introducing a no smoking policy at work from July 1st and to be honest it is going to be a right pain up the '***** to control. People are already sorting out hideaways to have a fag, it's a bit like nipping behind the bike sheds at school

Everyone has the right to live in a smoke free enviroment, but then again smokers have their rights as well.

It is soon going to be like heroin, banned but driven "underground" where people are going to do it anyway!

But if everybody did give up out of free choice then that could only be a good thing couldn't it?

Aha the preaching of the converted :/ I'm with you by the way, disgusting, filthy, smelly habit and participants should be transported to the colonies in irons!

It is nothing like heroin,

If a junkie wants to shoot his veins full of chemicals then that is his choice, it doesn't affect me in the slightest.

If someone lights a fag in the pub then A) I breathe in his smoke which is more harmful as it hasn't passed through a filter and :/ I go home smelling like an ashtray.

Smoking will never be banned as it is worth to much to the governments of the world. It is a bit like saying that petrol and diesel cars will be banned.

I think that anything that can potentially kill you should be banned.

This busy body government should ban gun ownership too.

Thank god I'm a keeper and work outside by myself.................I can still smoke to my hearts content.

Charlie

Like you Charlie I worked outside as underkeeper on a commercial shoot for many years and smoked a pipe, nice peterson it was and enjoyed black cherry, so aromatic and a flavour you could taste, it was said to be very pleasant by all that smelt it. :P

This went on as a daily ritual, me and my two labs out in the landy day after day, it was a very pleasant way of life, one day I realised I was trying to do physical work with it in my mouth and was reluctant to take it out, I even shot smoking it , my tongue was getting hot with my laboured breathing taking in extra oxygen due to exertion. :/

I tried to cut back and finally succeded, I was also worried about how hot my tongue had felt so I decided to give it up entirely, this was a huge task but I succeeded about a year later in 2002.

In July 03 a lymph in my neck came up, I was dignosed with cancer in the throat, after max Chemo, Radio treatment and 3 Trachys, also shaking hands with the big man, a journey I would not recommend, I am left about 85% fit and still undergo laser surgery to keep my airways open every 10 weeks, but I enjoy life and can still get out with the guns on good days, the forum has been a major source of entertainment and info, I really wish I had found it earlier.

If there is anyone reading this, particularly outdoor guys, if you can, cut it out, to anyone who doesnt smoke but likes the idea, leave it well alone its not worth the risk. ;)

Sorry if this sounds a little gloomy but it has to be said.

The smoking ban as unpalateable as it may seem will undoubtably save lives, I consider myself to have been very lucky that they got me in time, it is difficult to kick the habit, maybe think of your families, whatever it takes, but it is a lose lose situation.

Thanks for your words D2D, it's amazing that we can be told this time after time and we all ignore it until something comes a long and proves it to you. All that stats in the world won't make people stop unless they're shown on a personal level that it kills. By the way how long were you smoking for?

I've smoked for about 12 years and tried to quit several times per year for last 5 years, got it down to 5 per day and going to stop permanently in July, also I get hitched in July and have promised the long suffering girlfriend that I'll stop then.

My downfall has always been the pub, I can stop for ages but then go into a pub and i think I'd just like one and then several weeks later I'm back to 5 per day.

I can't wait for this July ban as hopefully I'll stop permanently.
