billytheghillie
Anyone recommend the above? Budget about £120--£150. With quite a good length of cut.
Wildfowler
With that budget you won't go far wrong with an evolution 255mm... have a look on screwfix
B725
I got a Metabo compound mitre saw for £150 just Google it and it will show the places that sell them

Paddy Galore!
second hand will get you something Makita or dewalt, I wouldn't trust an evolution machine to be accurate. I have a dewalt 708L that I was thinking about selling, only worth around the 200/250 mark so I might just keep it
jonny long shanks
Evolution saws are good value until you have to change the blade. Then they are a nightmare. I have a 110v dewalt that no longer cuts accurately. You can have it for £20 if you can collect from south of B'Ham.

Most half decent machines are completely adjustable; I adjusted my Makita from the box to get it spot on. Have a good look around it and you might be pleasantly surprised. jonny long shanks
I had to brake hard in the van and 20 sheets of ply shifted straight into the saw. It didn't stand a chance. It was my own fault for not loading it properly. It still cuts fine but it can't be adjusted. Its only good for less accurate work or cutting fire wood. Metabo is a good choice tho. billytheghillie
I got the Metabo saw today and set it up. I have found it is cutting short. I put the laser line right on my pencil mark and it was short by about 2mm. Think it is me, do I have to add in the blade width when measuring? Go easy with me, im getting old and dittery. bigrob
Sometimes you can adjust the laser.

Mice!
Is your blade width 2mm? If your timber is sticking out to the left and your blade is cutting on The line is it the left edge or right edge of blade that is on the mark, might just be set up opposite to how your using it if that makes sense
Paddy Galore!
I had a gander at a metabo saw recently, it has a movable fence and a sliding bevel for measuring and cutting odd mitres, only in 240v though, so maybe not. Will try again tomorrow, cheers.
manthing
Now you have it remember to treat it properly and buy a decent blade which makes all the difference. Edited February 25, 2017 by manthing
Dougy
I've got a Bosch SD12 A bit OTT for cutting kindling, but very nice ;-) Edited February 25, 2017 by Dougy
Blunderbuss
Bought an evolution from Screwfix a year or so ago and have been very pleased with it. I'm a hobbyist not a joiner or professional user so plenty good enough for my needs. I did spend a bit of time setting it up properly though. Cuts more than accurate enough for me. jonny long shanks
I have an Evolution saw and have changed the blade a few times. Why are you finding it a nightmare? Unlike Most saws there is a small bracket that has to be removed in order to move the guard out of the way so as the blade can easily be removed. Well there is on my one anyway. This was fine for the first blade replacement but on the second time this bracket snapped very easily. I made a new one with some bits of steel knocking about the shed but I feel that the evo saws aren't built to last as well as other saws in that price range, such as metabo. The small fiddle bits just make it more awkward than the single screw on other saws. Edited February 27, 2017 by jonny long shanks
TaxiDriver
Was in Lidl today and they'd got their own brand (parkside?) saw for £85 Might be worth a look at their website ? Believe it comes with 3yr warranty
bruno22rf
Evolution often sell off the saws they have used at trade exhibitions - mine was as new, evolution Rage £50.
