Scopes

I am looking to invest in a scope to go with my PCP rifle. I have looked at both the Hawke range and the MTC. I am looking at the higher end as I am looking for good clear optics and fine reticules. This scope will be a one of purchase so I cannot really afford to get it wrong.

Any thoughts Ladies and Gentlemen on which direction I should go?

This is going to be a can of worms, I have a Tasco varmint on my Rapid 7 think it's 6*24 and it's got parallex adjustment but it's probably too much really great scope and around 15 years old now but wouldn't go that high on the mag if buying a new one.

Also the parallex come range finding on it is good but means you can be out of focus if you need to take a quick shot at 20mtrs and the scope is set on 35.

Sure lots of folk will be on soon with more up to date info but less fiddling would be the way I'd go.

your looking for a good clear optics and fine reticules

then i would go for a 1980's/90's Japanese optics scopes something like a Tasco AG or a Tasco TR Scope

You don't need to spend a fortune on a scope for a PCP as it gets an easy life, you also don't need massive magnification or lenses - I would hazard a guess that most people out there who's guns wear something like a 6-24 x 50 scope normally leave it set at 6 or 7 mag and will never realise that 50mm lens is going to give you a negligible advantage over a 40mm one. Try as many as you can in your local shop(don't forget to focus the eyepiece for your eye)and see which is clearest then make sure that mounting it for your eye relief is possible, if several are a match then I would tend to go for one that is adjustable by hand as it makes life easier.

As above,

You won't be shooting past 45-50 yards so don't need to see what's in next county,

This is what I used to shoot with fine duplex reticle in the 80's and 90's, it was a great scope but you have to learn to judge your hold over and windage in inches to your quarry.

I now prefer the likes of the MTC Mamba Lite, don't want a big heavey scope with big geared turrets as I don't dial my clicks but hold over under.

You need to look through them at stuff outside like birds on roof top and trees and see how busy or uncluttered you want it. For me the newer fine half mildly scopes win with the oval holes for mildits instead of solid dots.

You could look on YouTube st the hunting channels like Vermin hunters to where they use scope cams so you can get a good look at what your eye will see.

I like side focus for parallax so I can look and check off the range as I leave the mag set at ten usually, can't be doing with front parallax.

Check out the Nikki panamax scopes as they get a decent review from Lloyd at Blackpool air rifles.

hello, why not go for a higher end hawke scope, life time warranty and very good customer service with Deben,

This.

Just taken an Hawke Airmax of my 97K and swapped to a Hawke Vantage, both good scopes but the Vantage was a steel so I had to get it...honest.

As said you need to try some and don't forget to adjust the eyepiece to your eye.

I like Hawke I have them on the rf and the pcp, however I have often wondered about the other manufactures, how easy are they to use? are they up to the job? What are the advantages of the other manufactures over each other?

I understand that it is a minefield, hence the reason I started this post I am looking for other shooters 'real world' experiances with scopes.

Don't know where you are Esca, but do you have an air rifle club near you? Might be able to turn up and ask the question most people probably quite happy to let you take a look, just be careful if there field target probably be great but not always practical for shooting live quarry

If you like Hawke then stick to them because they are good enough. If you are field hunting then a 4x32 is good enough for most; 3-9 x40 more than enough. AO is debatable. When it comes to scope usually less is more.
