Scully
For some time now our local Spar have offered a free Sun with a customers shopping. I always say no thank you. It is my understanding that the Sun do this in order to boost circulation figures; figures which potential advertisers will rely heavily on when making a decision on which papers to place their adverts. Now I'm not trying to tell people which paper they should be reading ( I don't read any ) and if you want to read the Sun then that's fine and dandy; each to their own; but for those out there like me who don't care for the paper, it is interesting to note that some outlets are now asking customers who say no, if they mind if they still scan the paper along with their shopping. The paper is then put to one side as if 'sold'. Just a little heads up.

Scully
That sounds like fraud to meIt's always struck me as so too, but if people accept one, even if it's free, then I suppose strictly speaking, it's in 'circulation'. Certainly very misleading at the least as far as 'sales' figures go.

shalfordninja33
Newspapers in the main a dying a rapid death, Weekend Paper circulations are holding up and increasing in some cases, Mon-Friday news is being consumed on mobile apps rather than in paper form meaning the circulations are dropping. The reduction in circulation hits the add revenue which publishers are doing everything they can to hold onto, online yet doesn't deliver the same add revenues, scanning an issue and putting to one side sounds a bit dicey however.
