Sparky88
Just having a scout round at shell prices. Normally use pigeon extreme but hit hard in The pocket. Just seen these - Trust Super Star Classic Advertised at my local shop. Any recommendations folks. Cheers. Chris
walt1980
Yup! Work well, used them a few times and a few guys I know who shoot a lot more than me say they're a really good cartridge for the money! What price are they? £55ish a slab? fortune
A guy was using some cartridges called joker that came in a Plastic bag. They were cheap, burnt clean, went bang and broke clays.
motty
I have no idea why anyone would regularly use pigeon extreme.

Wilts#Dave
I have no idea why anyone would regularly use pigeon extreme. Me neither. I'd guess most people that do, don't generally fire many shells a year so go for the 'top shell' they can lay their hands on.
Mr gen
I tried a couple of boxes of Trust super star 32G 5's on a driven day back in January I was very impressed with them they seemed to hit hard and at some long ranges too I paid £5.25 a box. Anyway I went to get a couple of slabs the following Monday to find that some one had bought the shops entire stock and has done every time he hears they are about. I have now asked the dealer to give me a call next time they are in.
fortune
What actually makes a top shell? As long as they go bang and reliably take the target what does it matter? If these cheap cartridges failed to fire or had variable shot load then there would be reason to say that they were cheap junk but they seem to produce good results. Most modern shells are made to a decent standard and so would require at least a testing of 1000 shots and patterns to get a statistical difference between them. As components, Powders and shot are all similar. A top end shell should be high brass (actual brass), high quality plastic shell, high quality primer, and powder with uniform burning. Generating high speed with low pressure. Consistant wad either fibre or plastic that compresses in a manner exactly reglecting pressure increase 6% antimony shot. Accurately sized ans measured and finished with a good crimp and resized to easily fit into chamber.
Whitebridges
I have no idea why anyone would regularly use pigeon extreme. Apparently they are George Digweeds go to pigeon shell. He usually knows what he's talking about. I use them occasionally and like 'em a lot.
motty
I would imagine Mr Digweed gets given as many as he likes. I would certainly use them if they were free.

wymberley
But he was involved in designing them, not to mention he gets them for free. For us mere mortals, I can't see the point in them for every day pigeon shooting. All things being equal, they have the energy to kill at 75 yards but in view of the miserly pellet count even with a (standard) full choke the pattern starts to fail at not much past 40 yards in order to be reasonably effective. Whitebridges
It's not an everyday shell. I use a few for roost shooting in a deep hole (WW2 bomb crater) where the top of the trees are 50m+ and for high birds on a flight line. Agree to much poke for everyday pigeon shooting but very useful to have a few boxes to hand for some situations.

Yep, your "occasionally" was noted, as is, now, the WW2 bomb crater - don't suppose Harnser is in a nearby bunker. I wonder what part of designing them was he involved in? was it standing and posing for the picture for the advertising?

The ol' boy can pop up anywhere. Has he told you about the Norfolk catacombs? Maybe that's another story.
lakeside1000
In the 70's I used to stick to Eley grand prix or Eley impax, always reliable results, but in the last 15 years or so I have changed several times, one I did like was Kent velocity, fast load with good range and pattern, sadly these are now under another brand now and although I did stick with them found them less efficient , on recommendation from Marsh Man I switched to Gamebore clear pigeon, good price, fast cartridge, very effective pattern and range, I have been using them now for over two years with total satisfaction, very effective on corvids, rabbits as well as pigeons, The only time I change is to use steel on the marshes through the winter when RC steel 5's does an ok job .
