Daveo26
Can anyone suggest a reasonable priced pair of compact binos? I've got a regular set but they feel like they are always in the way. I've been looking at the hawke stuff but can't make head nor tail of the range they offer. Cheers Dave
steve_b_wales
I have a set of Hawke NatureTrek which cost me £100. They carry a 10 year warranty and are excellent.

clakk
No Dave they fit nicely in the pocket ,bit bulkier than the 10x25,s but nothing major and the glass is quality .Probably 4.5" tall and 6""wide but not bulky at all

fortune
Price. ≥≥>>>> quality. If you want to see what you are looking at Leica Trinovid 8x20 BCA. Expensive but until you see through something like these you will never know how good they are. Others might not be as much but they ain't a patch optically as these are. Agree and have the Ultravids in the same size, but they are seriously expensive (even for excellent binos) . My first Leicas were used Trinovids and much better value used. Note that the eye relief isn't always sufficient for glasses wearers on compacts (or fore that matter many full size binos) - if you wear glasses, do check first. Generally more recent binos seem to have better eye relief and also better close focus. Edited May 15, 2017 by JohnfromUK
Pushandpull
At the same price point you will get much better low light performance from a slightly larger but still compact 8 x 30. I have Leica 8 x 20s but they are almost too light and fiddly to deploy quickly. Great to pop in your pocket for occasional use, but when I know I will need binoculars (which is more or less daily) my Leica 8 x 32s are the choice. Anything larger will not really tuck away inside your jacket, and you start to think about harnesses etc. - ok for woodland stalking but not for a quick flight on the marsh or an armed walk. fortune
Buy the best you can afford, i would of saved hundreds if i had done this instead of going for cheapies. everyones eyesight and perception is different. I looked through a lot and untill you look through something really decent any old toot looks reasonable. it all depends on your pocket but junk is junk and quality is quality. at least the quality has a value if you want to sell them. Swarovski are good also.
ips
Have you considered a monocular. I got one last year for keeping an eye out on the estate whilst dogging in and I have found it to be very good. Obviously smaller and lighter than bins

ips
This is mine, only cheap but as I say it does the job. Many more to choose from with more mag, bigger lens, better optics. Gives you an idea though. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00DQ7OHX0/ref=yo_ii_pd_dx_mr_1?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00DQ7OHX0&pd_rd_r=ZBPZ9TH2JEBKT9R7NHMQ&pd_rd_w=TCTby&pd_rd_wg=rHQX2&psc=1&refRID=ZBPZ9TH2JEBKT9R7NHMQ
