I have found this coin collection in the loft last night(bought house off wife's parents in 1990).Sues dad used to collect coins and I used to let him stick stuff up in the loft.Any how he passed away years ago.I was up in the loft last night having a sort about when I came over two large suitcase. This is just the contents of one.I have no idea of their value or where to start. One of the boxes looks like it has some gold sovereign in.The only coin I've checked the value of is a 1996 silver proof £2 Coin @ £64.Is there anywhere that I could just take them for valuation?

There were a lot of 'commemorative' coins and stamps issued to collectors - and they were quite expensive. I had a family member who bought them. Unfortunately, they have a quite limited resale value as they were made in considerable numbers. The exception was always gold coins, which have a decent base value from the weight of gold. Good luck as the values I had (quite a few years ago now) were very disappointing and I held onto them in the end. Perhaps in 100 years they may gain some value ......

Not just gold ones

I've got a solid platinum coin, in with a boxed set of 5 others. Not found a value for it though

If they offered that, then they are worth a lot more because they will flog them at a tidy profit from there. It all depends if you want the hassle of selling them yourself individually.

You now know what they're worth so if you're happy with the offer?

Hi

You found them just enjoy the collection

Maybe even add to it

These collections are spare money saved for a rainy day

There is a nice display and focal point for a room or a studio

However If it's raining and you need the money consider a auction house (specialist sale)

Best to remember everyone has to make a living and turn a profit

Anyway good find

I found a tin of old pennies 😂😂😂

All the best

hello Davyo, ok tonker maybe right, but if it were me i would get a 2nd opinion, try FRANK AND SON of Newcastle, ) as seems a very precise amount on value, so they are looking at £4,000 profit maybe more, second opinion davyo ?

Personally if I was wanting to sell something like this I'd go through a specialist auction.

They'll be properly detailed with the relevant information to each item.

They'll also be reaching a far wider and specific market.

A good auctioneer will squeeze out every last penny he can, makes good business for you and himself.

Better to pay a sellers fee and know the markets value for something at the fall of the hammer than just a price for a job lot.
