eddoakley
Advice from those that know please guy. What is the best off the shelf torch on the market? Money no object situation. Must be durable. As bright as possible. Reasonable size suitable to be put in a backpack. And generally available within a few days. So who is using what? steve d
I use a Led Lenser P7.2, bombproof, 3 levels of brightness upto 320lm, small and not too heavy. Its used eveyday for work and walking the dogs and performs faultlessly. Yes you can get much brighter torches but i like to be able to see something in the 5 minutes after ive turned it off! steve_b_wales
Any of the 'T' series,(Ludicrous Lumens) or the EVO range (the torch factory) The EVO range is one torch on which various sized heads can be fitted. I have a '67' one and it's very bright.
rimfire4969
I use one of these most nights to check on livestock around the fields. Very bright and not too big and at £56 I think not bad money. https://clulite.cluson.co.uk/led-torches/357-clubriter-rechargeable-led-hand-torch.html

I fitted an Amber filter on mine, and can still get 300+yards on a good night. It beats my old lamp with wires trailing to the battery. Dave-G
Advice from those that know please guy. What is the best off the shelf torch on the market? Money no object situation. Edd Shall we assume you want to use it in the hand rather than on a rifle for example Edd? If so I'd also say the EVO - and there are a choice of heads that screw onto the torch body: The larger heads are bulkiest/heaviest but will zoom to proportionally tighter/more concentrated further penetrating square beams than smaller heads. walshie
A second vote for the LED Lenser P7.
DrBob
Am a torch nerd. Lenser P7.2 excellent, and runs off normal AAA cells rather than endless recharges, plus availability of common batteries when the only source is a village shop. However, have just acquired a Coast HP7R. Comes with rechargeable units, but also a battery cradle for triple As. Very bright, only slightly larger than the P7.2, and some excellent deals about. Good focus too ( as have the Lensers), a round spot beam rather than the cheaper torches which have a beam which mirrors the shape of the LED, ie square! eddoakley
Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely handheld rather than attached to rifle. Not bothered if rechargeable or removable batteries. Edd

Not bothered if rechargeable or removable batteries. Edd The Clu Briter is excellent, Edd, and fits the hand perfectly. I didn't buy mine directly from Cluson Engineering, and it worked out cheaper. JohnfromUK
I have a Fenix TK 35 which is excellent. There is a newer version https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/fenix-tactical-torches/fenix-tk35-ultimate-edition-2015-led-torch.html These are quite expensive, but superb - and have output from good and economical on battery life to extreme output. Mine has been dropped, knocked around etc, but still works like new. 100% recommended.
