Smokersmith
A CG Maxum would also be a good choice .....
walt1980
Might have to have a look at a B25 in that case, seems to be a well liked gun, Miroku is a maybe as well. Just need to have a look and hopefully a shot with some and try them!
R1nut
That's the best option, try as many as poss. If it's a special gun as a treat to you, you will have more confidence in it if it feels that little bit special! I personally like fixed choke and short barrels, I don't give choke a second thought and never need to check them. I find being smaller they balance better for me
dougall
if buying new you spend 20% on vat @ 10% dealer(fair enough) so in reality you are getting @ £2,600 worth of gun for your £3,500.If go 2nd hand and tidy nick most of the guns above @ £3,500 will be worth £3,500 tomorrow and the next day....the majority of these more premium guns are also well looked after.. I think you will be v lucky to find a good b25 under 5k...heritage brownings are out there......you state you are not mad on Berettas...have you seen/held/fired a EELL.....to me at your price range the gun to get and ideally a slightly older one......CGs shoot nicely but don't hold their value(maybe helps you buying a 2nd hand one)...obvoiusly just my view but having been through your quandary(a few times....dont tell the wife)I think I would be between a heritage if 12g and a eell if 20g..........have fun choosing..... Just need to have a look and hopefully a shot with some and try them! Them miroku's must be ok cos i believe that Dave Carrie bloke has a matched or composed pair for high pheasant. He seems to be a very good game shooter and not without a degree of money 😁 Not my choice as I am a staunch Beretta man but there you go
Salop Matt
https://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/360144-browning-425-grade-5-12-gauge/ I would agree with WelshAndy on the above it looks awesome. If I had the money or he wanted to swap it for my 6 month old 20 bore B525 I wouldn't hesitate. Stunning looking gun and I would save the rest of your cash other than a few slabs of Gambore Black Gold 32gram 5`s and a nice leather slip. welshwarrior
Once you have shot a B25 any Jap Browning feels very machine made and angular in the grip. Great guns Mirokus but they are not as nice as the older B25's pre 1985. Each to his own shot B25 a fair few times and regularly shoot with best English makes OU and sbs but sorry I bought mk60 high pheasants. Handling etc is in the hands of the shooter no one else's. walt1980
Got to admit I had a bit of a thing about the CG's but was put off after seeing resale value, I've shot a couple of Beretta EELL and just didn't feel right to me, lovely gun but wasn't comfy. Fixed choke is a possibility but here in flat Suffolk where a high bird is 25 yards it'd need to be fairly open, which then causes issues/excuses in Wales when I go! Will be looking at a Chapuis at the weekend but a Miroku is now a bit higher on the list. Am I right in thinking the 60 is fixed Choke and 70 is multi? Gunman
The older ones are out there for that kind of money The first older double trigger b25 a1 I came across on guntrader is 595!!! Is that the number or the price?. Must agree if you want an O/U game gun then the Browning B25 is the one to go for , Mines a 28" custom ,but for £3500 you should pick up a decent one ,but as in all things be careful and get every thing well checked first . figgy
Gunman you must have worked on the B25 more than any other gun working where you did.
Sussex gardener
Ceaser geurini maxum is a gorgeous gun, I have a sporter but will use it for game also. People often say about resale value with CG, but I consider this to be my "forever" gun so I didn't start out with the idea of not keeping it. Caeser Guerini? There is a thread on here about them. I have an Ellipse curve and love it! If I could justify a second gun, it would be this.

Yep MK 60 fixed choke - many people get them fitted with teague chokes as I said earlier they're the best value game gun on the market - In my humble opinion. Am I right in thinking the 60 is fixed Choke and 70 is multi? of whatever criteria you come up with I would put multi-choke as last/least important......The Heritage is a Miroku it is just finished/engraved in Liege........MK60/70/425/525/heritage basically same thing it is just wood/engraving/tarty bits on top.....Dave Carrie likes grade 5 as it is heavier/better stock...all fine guns...all you are spending at your budget is effectively body work....the basic engine is the same and a fine engine it is too...... Gunman
Gunman you must have worked on the B25 more than any other gun working where you did. True in recent years . The Gun trade has changed so much when I started out O/U's had not become the dominate model , The repair trade was mostly British made SxS's . But in recent years they became less popular especially with the new and younger shooters . The B25 may to some seem old fashioned not being a multi choke, back bored, chrome lined, 3&1/2" magnum, but it is and will be for many years to come a superb handling ,well made game gun . That with a little care and maintenance will give long and reliable service .
walt1980
Back from the the mud/game fair! Had a look at the Chapuis, nice guns but decided against the laser etched "engraving" looked at William Powell stand, nice one for £3500, black trigger guard against a silver action! Put me off straight away! So far I think I'm going for a Miroku MK38 grade 5 or 6, looked at the 60/70 but was a little low for me and the 38 fitted much better. Might leave it a week or 2 before I order one, see what pops up for sale! Cheers for all the advice and opinions
archi
The Mk60 does come with a high stock but only with 32"barrels
alic
Make sure it fits and you will not regret it ,i have a MK38 GD 5 sporter ( now with adjustable comb to get it to fit as I need a high comb) . I have not enjoyed shooting clays so much ( or successfully!) Edited July 30, 2017 by alic
