toontastic
VW recommend you check your oil weekly, so playing devils advocate if you had followed the manufacturers advice the problem wouldn't have occurred.

You should check fluids and tyre pressures weekly anyway...
figgy
Come on boys you all know you can't get better than a quick fit fitter.
triumphant59
If I'm honest I don't have too much sympathy with Winchester Dave. Why would anyone take a decent car (or any car for that matter)to kiwi fit for a service or mot. They have a terrible reputation and garranteed to find issues with mot that need expensive repairs and not capable of servicing a wheel barrow!! Ricko
I let those jokers do a service years ago, they fitted the seal in the fuel filter incorrectly allowing an air seepage to happen, result; wouldn't start the next day. Won't let Kwikfit touch any of my vehicles now.

I asked them politely in rather broad Geordie to get the car off their ramp rather quickly, they did this & later at a "proper" garage only pads were needed.I would not trust them to change my cats litter tray. +1. Similar experience when my wife went in alone. Cowboys! (Not all, but heard many similar incidents)

I feel sure that Dave has realised that now, but sometimes time and circumstances prevail and 'any port in a storm' is better than 'lost at sea' ! Finding a trustworthy mechanic can be a minefield in itself. Finding a good mechanic AND the time to visit him can be something else again ! Ricko
Kwikfit failed to fit the seal correctly on my fuel filter, the fuel ran back overnight, the result being it wouldn't start. I just won't use them anymore. Luckily I've got a good diesel specialist by me who came out, bled the system and took it away to sort it out. SPARKIE
Don't take any car to quickfit.. I friend (single lady with 3 kids) had her car serviced there a few months ago. vw tourag v6 diesel. the following day it broke down and wouldn't start while at toys r us. I got a phone call from the mrs and I popped over to assist. when I got there the manager from the kwik fit had a diagnostic tool attached to the vehicle. he admitted he wasn't sure what he was looking for but there was no codes on the system. I sounded like a flat battery very slow turn over. anyhow I called rac for here and they came tried to jump the vehicle. it turned over slowly but fired up..... the noise from the right hand side of the engine was immense we turned it off straight away. kwik fit said they wouldn't have anyone able to diagnose the fault so I got it recovered to a friends garage where they had a look into it. they suspected the wrong oil had been used also the oil pressure was very low and when the filter was removed it was full of fillings they then think it was run without oil topped up and put outside. not bad for a car that had done less than 10 miles since the service. anyhow they had a independent company come out and investigate the outcome was the engine was scrap and it was kwik fits fault. she ended up getting payed out 5.5k for a new car. GingerCat
Years ago a mechanic friend recounted how a chap had gone to kick fit for a tyre. Whilst there the lad asked if he wanted a free brake and suspension check. Sure do said the owner. The lad returned and said all the suspension was knackered and needed replacing. No worries said the owner crack on. So the kick fit lad changed all the suspension and presented him with a large bill. The owner produced a receipt from another kick fit that had carried out the very same work less than a week earlier and walked away laughing. The roads up here in winter are very muddy and he probably figured he could earn some commission as that's how they are paid. I took mine to get the tracking fixed after hitting a pot hole. The lad said he couldn't get a nut loose and would have to heat it up but that would mean be would have to replace something or other becjae jt would melt and it would cost loads. I got it off the ramp and my mechanic friend did the job without issue and wondered quite what the kwick fit bloke was talking about. Not used them since other than the odd tyre in a fix.
