Scotty1980
Just picked up a cheap single barrel 12g Baikal for the my older children to use, just a quick question, should the firing pin work when you pull the trigger and the barrel is cocked? It doesn't seem to be doing anything, or is it designed not to? Thanks. Edited June 15, 2019 by Scotty1980

Thanks. hello, if you pull the trigger you should see on the face the pin head although it is not good practice, slip a piece of paper in and see if it makes a hole. Is that possible? I ask because I tried it once on a sxs to see which barrel fired first and the mechanism was so well machined that I couldn't close the barrel with the piece of paper in situ. In fact, on reflection, I would be worried if there was sufficient clearance / wear to slip a piece of paper in. Thanks.

Thanks. hello, i have done it with very thin paper but you have to be careful, or you can cut a piece on masking tape to a round shape just smaller than a cartridge head so closing a gun no problem,
Bazooka Joe
After you've cocked it take the barrel off, place a pound coin over the firing pin hole then pull the trigger, you should feel the pin strike the coin, if not you've a problem. Scotty1980
Ok, thanks for the advice chaps. 👍
Scotty1980
Just tried it and the pin isn't piercing the paper. For how much these guns cost, it's not even worth messing around with. I'll probably just scrap it at my local shop.
Old farrier
Or go to your local and take the pin out of a scrapper 🙄
Bazooka Joe
Try the pound coin, the pin might just be pushing the paper & not piecing it, failing that easy fix & a cheap one. If you go down this route take the pin out & compare it to the one in the link. FIRING PIN
oldypigeonpopper
hello, now that must be worth a go to fix for a tenner, good luck
ditchman
pull the trigger....and whilst doing that push the hammer forward...to see if the pin appears....if the pin is snapped....it will be a very easy fix to turn one down and fit it
bruno22rf
PM Wabbitbosher, bet he's got loads of spares for these, failing that I think Chambers do new for just under £15.

Exactly, Mick aka Wabbitbosher would probably sell you a couple of SB Baikals for a similar amount.
Lloyd90
Take it to a field/ clay ground where you have permission, stick a cart in and see if it works?

strimmer_13
Or cut the whole top off a cart, powder and everything and just fire the primer. Wont make much noise, that's how I tested mine, and no worries about pressure blowing stuff up in a confined space like a blank would
