walshie
I'm in the market for a quivertip rod. I don't want rubbish, but I don't want or need to pay £100s either. Is there a middle of the road brand these days that fits the bill?
Centrepin
Look at the Drennan Red range, absolutely top quality for fair prices. Different rods depending on what you want. I think mine was about £55, I'd have another in the blink of an eye. Never had anything bad from Drennan.

washerboy
Browning I use their 9ft waggler rod and it's great, I use their matching bomb rod that is the same size but handles double figure carp easily

washerboy
I'm not sure there is such a thing as a bad tackle maker these days. Any of the top 15 will make an excellent rod. Even Shakespeare do a good feeder rod.
panoma1
Are there any British blank manufacturers left? Or are all blanks now made in the Far East?.............Weren’t Diawa rods made in Scotland at one time?

I assembled a fibatube 2 piece 10ft spinning rod from a kit, purchased from McHardy of Carlisle, with fugi rings and reel fittings....it was a great rod! And my main Salmon spinner for many years, I caught lots of Salmon on it! Unfortunately I broke the top joint trying to release a spinner, when snagged on the bottom! 😥 I ordered a new blank from Hardy’s, to collect on my way up to Tweed..........when I got there, the price they wanted (for what it was) was eye watering! I ended up purchasing a reduced, sale price, Hardy perfection, 3 piece spinning rod, for not a lot more money than they wanted for the fibatube blank!....the missus, bought it me as an early birthday present! I still use it to this day......well I will, hopefully, after the Corvid19 lockdown is lifted 😃
mpmilo
You wont go far wrong with Daiwa or Preston innovations mid range tip rods, they will handle silvers to double figure carp. In fact most manufacturers these days have a decent mid range. But all my match rods are Daiwa or PI and i have never had any problems with any of them. Mid range PI rods Edited May 7, 2020 by mpmilo

Mid range PI rods My mate who match fishes a lot says the same. The 2 brands he constantly buys. His seat boxes cost more then all the gear I have ever owned 😂
mpmilo
Haha, it can be an expensive hobby , Depends how far you want to go . My pole is the same price as a decent second hand car. Let alone Rods, Reels , Ive never been into the really expensive seatboxes some over a grand 😲

I've replaced a lot of my kit since I renewed my interest but not high end gear, just serviceable kit but not junk.
washerboy
I have a tiny amount of gear to what I use to own, it can become obsessive buying gear. I have one or two float rods and one feeder rod. A few ninja reels. I enjoy my lure fishing for perch much more, I travel light, rod, reel, net and my lures in a bag. Can cover miles in a few hours. Not sure I will ever go back to sat on a box or chair

Yes i was the same, fished 4 days a week ( self -employed helps ) teams and individual. Packed it all in 2 years ago, just pleasure fish now on bream venues mostly. A lot of my friends have had gear nicked out of the back of cars, vans etc. Some on driveways, but a lot from fisheries which is worrying especially when you could have 5 to 10 grands worth go in 5 minutes. Luckily i have never had it happen, but the lads i know have been gutted, some gear you just cant get these days.. To be fair theres a lot of very good mid priced gear out there now, I would only spend mega money on specialist gear 90yd plus feeder fishing and the like. 18 minutes ago, washerboy said: I have a tiny amount of gear to what I use to own, it can become obsessive buying gear. I've got one and it's a ruddy marvellous. with the 1-1/4lb top on it's a superb specimen chub rod, but with the quivers on it's light and supple and great fun with just about anything on the end. I've not found anything better in that class https://www.drennantackle.com/products/rods/series-7/series-7-specialist-rods/12ft-specialist-avon-quiver-1-14/ Edited May 7, 2020 by chrisjpainter

washerboy
I can find drennan on line but my local tackle shops never stock it, so I don't buy it. I try and use Chapmans angling for all my stuff. Shop in S****horpe

Only British rod maker I can think of is Brian Potter, of Bruce and Walker fame.
