DUNKS
I have a 2.2 diesel manual top of the range Sovereign one of the last made in 2010 had it for three years. now has 75,000 on the clock. Early ones were rust buckets "2002" and there was a facelift around 2016 which solved some problems. Engine and manual gearbox are bomb proof "fitted to a zillion Ford Transits" Any garage can fix and service it at reasonable cost. Mine is a joy to drive and I can get over 60mpg. Has not cost me a penny in repairs BUT. It is a Jaguar and can cost you a fortune. Edited July 4, 2020 by DUNKS
Fuddster
I've considered these before-basically Ford underpinnings with a pretty frock on-weakest point are the sills which can rust out behind plastic trim. would happily have one but no need at present. f. Cruising on motorways it was easy on the ear and the bum, but on country roads it had a nice chassis that gave a sense of fun, without making everyone car sick - quite a feat with his driving. I drove it a couple of times and it really was very nice indeed.
Walker570
I have an X type estate, the 4x4 model but with the V6 engine. Great car to drive and be driven in. It is one of the only cars which Clarkson did not denegrate on Top Gear. Yes the sills are a problem but easy to repair. Had mine sorted last year and now better than new. I would expect the diesel to give better mileage on the fuel tank but the V6 is fun to sit behind. Had it 5yrs now and it has cost me about £3 a week in service and repairs but I do not do a high mileage in it as it is a best car.
lancer425
Think they would be a nice car, i ran a 2005 mondeo estate 2 litre 136hp version in estate and it did over 330 000 miles. Engine was still good but my second dual miss clutch died so it had to go as it needed rear wheel bearings and an exhaust as i had been runing it de cat and no silencer for years and they were getting tighter at mot so got warned off. I loved that car . thin k a jaguar with that engine would be a great car.

ph5172
I have one that’s currently in for repair. First time in 10 years mind. I do find myself trying to change into 6th that isn’t there on the 2L models. I think the 2.2 had the 6 speed box. things I would say - replace the wheel nuts as soon as you get them with solid ones. They are an awful 2 piece job that tend to swell and shear off flat and require drilling to remove - one of the jobs that mines in for. The egr valve clogs up easily - using supermarket fuel is one is the major reasons, spend an extra few pence on decent stuff. The alloys tend to corrode and leak thus requiring rim sealant . The boot is actually very generous service packs can be bought for £50 on the net including the 6 odd L of oil it takes. But... I’m not a fan personally, I liken it to driving a Concorde. The roof is low and the dash high giving a strange view. I find it a bit too enclosed for me all round as well. the rear leg room is awful and the rear doors don’t open far enough (think 2/3 of a normal car door) the wife on the other hand loves it and wouldn’t drive anything else. It concede it’s comfortable and capable it’s just not for me by choice but I would happily drive it Apparently it’s the car that saved jaguar and is actually a mini XJ (or similar I cannot recall what the specialist said) like I said don’t let me put you off it’s a nice car if you don’t mind me asking what’s the price? Just under 3 grand which I think is at the top end.Although it's in cracking condition. Its a bit pricey. Edited July 6, 2020 by wisdom Addition added. You have to remember if a new one is, for instance, 30 grand, you are paying for ten percent of one so can’t expect too much.
Smokersmith
I had one about 12 years ago .. lovely to drive. Ended up parting with bit due to persistent engine problems, so do your research there.
wisdom
Thank you all for your replies. Not going ahead as the car has corrosion on the advisories from last years MOT.
