To be frank, here are far more harmfull substances in the ingredients used in the food we buy at Tescos. A member of my family has been shooting lead since he was 5 years old and has eaten a large proportion of all he has shot to the present day. He was a plumbing and heating engineer for 45 years and spent all of those years regularly welding lead with no respirator, extraction etc. He is alive, healthy and 72 now. So is a ban on lead that naturally occurs on the planet going to make a difference, well I think it is down to the individual to draw their own conclusions. So just under 5 years until the voluntary ban, use up your existing stocks of lead load cartridges and re-loading shot, then who knows. Unless we all use Bismuth or Tungsten if lead shot ever comes off the market, then there are going to be a lot more wounded birds, as steel will never ever be as effective as lead -period ! rbrowning2 Posted September 4, 2020 Report Share Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) All this talk that Steel may be ok in 12g If you do not mind the extra recoil, however I am not so sure about the small gauges like .410 and 28ga especially if a biodegradable wad is required. Plastic waste has far more focus as an issue with the general public than lead shot. Remember if it only a voluntary ban of lead shot at this time and I will not pay silly money for a non toxic load for my 28ga or biodegradable wad load for my 12ga if it comes to that I and possible many more will just give up shooting. edited to add if non toxic shoot becomes law then their is also the issue of clay grounds that do not allow steel shot to be used on safety grounds, that may require a significant change in attitude also.
