Our national hero Sir Captain Tom Moore is in hospital maybe he caught covid when he was on holiday in Barbados over Xmas.

That old fella is everything that makes Britain great. I wish him all the very best for a full and speedy recovery.

Yes, a few of these young Uni crowd could take a note from his book. My wife spoke with a lady today who said the depot she worked from was flat out with deliveries and they had some 'students' employed to work there who never stopped moaning about how cold it was and that they couldn't bend down and move something...moan moan moan.... still I suppose there wasn't an APP on their phone was there.

The younger generation don't have the monopoly on pointless complaining though. The current vaccination generations can more than hold their own in that department.

Here's hoping the captain will be okay though. It's good he's not been moved to ICU

With you 100%  Back when I was a student it was considered degrading not to have a job of some sort, delivering papers was most sort after, even before school.  We had a long line at the back door of the farmhouse in potato lifting time, in fact the October holiday was considered by kids as potato picking holiday. If I remember correctly they got 10/- for a 5 day, weeks work picking. That was 10 Friday nights in the best seats at the local picture house, five if you had a girl friend.  Sit in the front row and you could have enough for a bag of chips afterwards.

. I got myself a cracking job night work, shifting mail from train to train at Tamworth Station for three weeks prior to Christmas and the only source of heat was a very small fire in the crew room.  I was born and bred on a farm so some form of work was always on hand from the day i could handle a brush or muck fork.

I wonder what 18yr olds will look back on in another 62yrs.   Like me they probably cannot imagine it.

Same for me - though as soon as I left school, I got a job (in industry) for a year before university - and went back there for every holidays.  Worked on the farm evenings and weekends.  Paid for my (part of as I also had a partial grant, and some parental support) university that way.

My daughter just finished her Masters late last year, and had various jobs throughout....bar work, waiting on at the Molyneux Stadium, cash out at Asda and even a short spell at Maccy D’s. She is now furloughed from work as an assistant manager in retail where she worked 57 hours per week for minimum wage.
My son is presently doing online studies from Newcastle Uni’ ‘til he can get back there. When he’s not studying he works for a local fruit/veg’ retailer, and when he’s not in the shop from 6am ‘til 4pm, he’s up at 0330 to travel to market in either Sedbergh or Hawes. A days takings at market is often upwards of 2.5 grand, and he does it three times a week for minimum wage.
In another 62 years time he and his sister will be in their early 80’s, and no doubt will be twining about much the same things that that current age group are moaning about now.
