johnphilip
19 minutes ago, ditchman said: right i get that..........i will be buying a bluray and i know they aint cheap the type that will take dvd ordinary and blu ray to purley view quality films when the come out...so it would be sensible to buy a top tv to view it on and as i will be using a standard high gain ariel.....the quality will be dependent on the signal.......some of the programmes on freeview are HD some are not.....but its the picture quality on films thro the player im interested in ..as i dont do the cinima thing......... Simon seriously think about this , if you have fast Internet speed then Netflix or prime TV ( amazon) . I pay 13pounds a month and can watch as many films as I like . How much is one Dvd to buy .how much Is a top quality dvd player .how often are you going to rewatch a dvd you have bought . I would go this route a good 4k tv say around 60 inch . On these two channels there are 4k movies to watch free The quality is outstanding providing your Internet is say at least 15 -20 meg . The TV will have a Netflix app built in . Hell you can try it for a month free . Some of these wild life films are amazing the quality will blow you away . I love Netflix, very rare do I watch the normal TV channels there are channels I do watch . I love lots of stuff on Alaska like gold mining. Stuff from Australia Opal hunting and gold hunting channels like Dave ,blaze loads of others . Would forget about anything dvd player wise . What ever tv you deside the picture will be upscaled to 1080p at least , hell even the news looks great what is the best tv at the moment, no idea but they are getting better all the time
johnphilip
Ok freeview uses your TV ariel when anolog was turned off freeview was introduced you had to buy a box to plug you ariel into then the tv Freesat as in Sat is a satellite dish . A modern TV has those both built in . Freesat uses Sky TV satellite free no cost no money is payed to sky for this service . I belive there is more channels on freesat . So its just an ariel against a sat dish . Both are dependent on signal quality.

Worth mentioning that YouTube now has 4K content too although admittedly not on the shooting channels that I watch.

Fair enough. But, to a certain extent that ship has sailed; all TVs will now come with a connection to the internet, so it's rather academical. You might not want to use streaming services now, but I predict there will come a point when you will. I'm thinking more of the availability of older films not coming on physical media, rather than the latest releases. This being the case, please give some consideration to running a network cable between your future telly and your router or your 4G 'fag packet' box you currently use. Watching 4k over wifi isn't to be recommended.

I just don't know how many films are in 4 k , but blu ray is still amazing . There are plenty of stuff on the likes of Dave, blaze , dmax Quest , plus others like you say some are in HD . The likes of BBC itv etc I very rarely watch , with your dvd player there are loads of charity shops you can buy dvd dead cheap to buy . Get washed and shaved and go and look at a few in some shops then buy online cheaper . Tech is changing all the time and getting better and cheaper . Is this going to end up like the mole post 😀😀

No engineers to come fix your dish or box . But those in areas of slow Internet are going to suffer . The Internet is the way everything will work . Hel, in our town they are closing my TSB bank , 40 years I have been with them .

JTaylor91
I can recommend box.co.uk. I bought a new TV recently then about a week later I noticed they had a code to get an extra 10% off. Quick email and they honoured the new deal refunding me 10%.

In the North East a few months ago that big transformer caught fire and wiped out tv for everyone Once you buy the TV you can diside later if you want to go down the Internet route at a later date . A new TV and good signal will blow you away with the picture quality I have had 3 TV over the last 20 years and this samsung one is the best . Think go big you won't regret it . discobob
https://www.hotukdeals.com/search?q=television most deals seem to be at CostCo - you can do membership online for £15 - I believe that the 5 year warranty is only for when you keep the account active - if not it defaults back to manufacturers warranty - might have changed though so another FM may be able to clarify that

I cannot advise on what T V to buy or what would be the best one , ours is an ordinary Sony flat screen and is about 40 inches wide , what I can say and I speak as I find is the service I have had from Currys , very good service , delivered bang on time and above all it was free delivery . I took the make and the serial number and compared on the net and Currys came out on top and a lot better than most . On top of that we have got local branches and can deal direct if you needed any advice or need to take it back if it went wrong . Well worth looking into one of there branches , nearest to me is the one on the retail park at Lowertoft .

Whitebridges
This is a good read. In this ever changing world it's possible to get absolutely fantastic streaming services over the internet the caveat being a really fast and reliable internet connection with the necessary speed. This comes at a COST if any of you live in rural areas you will understand stuffing fat data through a small pipe will not ever deliver on screen quality or for that matter HQ sound, by this I mean Dolby Atmos and other variants. If you are fortunate enough to be connected via Virgin Superfast media fiber the sky is the limit but it will cost you. So Ditch wants a new tele and surround sound? I'd say buy a 4K tele ( Samsung Neo) and and a 4K Blu-ray player. Don't get sucked in by this stuff about 8K either as there is no material out there (much) and if you thought you'd like to view it and get any advantage you would need a panel (TV) about 108inch wide. Such items are not suitable for most lounges!

Ok , my tv developed a fault one month left in the 5 year guarantee. They gave me a number to contact the company who did the warranty . They send a guy out from Glasgow to my house 90 miles away , to check it out, my tv has a box everything plugs into then one cable into the back of the Tv . He said I will get you the new part and get it sent to you, got, fitted it all sorted amazing service.
