Vince Green
Police have to investigate the circumstances of any unexpected or suspicious death to establish the facts for presentation to the coroner.

Shouldn't be a very long investigation then.

I'd expect any police incident where a fire arm is discharged to be investigated.
TIGHTCHOKE
My point, that I should have made clearer, is that a dog killing its owner inside his property is pretty conclusive. I understand about the discharge of a weapon to kill the dog.

Eaf70
I believe the gentleman who was killed by the dog wasn't the actual owner, apparently he had been asked to mind it for a few weeks, perhaps this is a reason for an enquiry ? Chapter and verse. They will have to establish the dogs history. Has it been aggressive before? Has it been used for fighting? Had it been given anything to enhance its performance? They give dogs all sorts of things like steroids etc to make them fight better if it was a fighting dog It all has to be checked. After all why was he keeping a dog like that in the first place? But a lot of the people who kept panthers etc as pets (and there were more than anyone realised) turned them loose when the law changed They are still wandering the British countryside now. Another non native invasive species.
