Any electrical experts comment before I try and burn the motor?
scarecrow243
i don't think that would run the magnet as they are for short starting of cars it may burn out under long use
TOPGUN749
I think they are for use within a brief period and then they switch off automatically!
TIGHTCHOKE
Usually these devices have a fairly high out put to start a cars engine. Only one way to find out, give it a go.
ditchman
it will turn your pigeon magnet into a bloody gyroscope...
mellors
I would think so but not for long. Possibly melt the wires to the magnet. Put a 5 amp inline fuse between the pack and magnet if it blows forget the idea. Give it a go let us know. Imagine the thing having so much excess power and increased speed that like an sycamore seed in reverse the things frees itself from the earth and is then last seen heading West out towards Ireland as 20,000 feet followed by ever increasing flocks of pigeon. The OP will be held in awe for generations to come and spoken of in amazed tones as the "Pigeon Pied Piper". The Bristolian shooter that in an afternoon, single handed and equipped only with his "magnet" and 12 volt eBay "booster box", rid the West Country of woodpigeon. The NFU will surely erect a statue to him in his home town. Perhaps labelled "Our Saviour" surrounded at his feet with sugar beets and garlanded with their leaves and holding high in his raised hand his "magnet" and its cable (all worked from best foundry bronze) on that presently redundant plinth once occupied by Edward Colston... steve_b_wales
As mentioned, a 12v 7Amp/hr battery should last you quite a few hours. You can even get a 10 Amp/hr one.

Wilts#Dave
Get yourself a lithium battery, under £100 on eBay with charger and light as a feather. Same size as the 7ah ones but 20ah so lasts a whole session easily.
oldypigeonpopper
Hello, Is there some one local who fixes those mobility scooters ?? They often have those 12 volt batteries that replace new ones but still good to use on pigeon whirlies
DUNKS
I think no matter what amp hour rate the battery is the whirly will only draw what it needs to work. Put on a huge car battery and it will only work at the same speed. I would expect your car starter battery to be fine. But don't quote me!
