steve_b_wales
Can anyone recommend a good quality CBD oil to help with arthritis knee joint pain? I'm taking Co Codamol tablets which are a waste of time. I've also been prescribed Naprosen, which again, is not working.
welsh1
I use some four five cbd balm, use it for shoulders and knees when they hurt a bit more than normal, it seems to help.

Fairly good but with difficult side effects, not the least of which are high weight gain and addiction risk. Coming off is also not easy. Totally depends on your dose, if you get 5mg prescribed but don't take it unless you get a "flare" then you should be fine, if not enough then double your dose, as for side effects I'm struggling to think of any Med without them, as a Steroid yes they can increase your appetite. I've been on 5mg for more than 10 years with no side effects but without the drug my knees can suddenly double in size overnight, this makes walking almost impossible so then I get fluid retention, this, in turn, can take weeks to subside. As for coming off them being difficult? I don't honestly think I would have any problems if I had to.

JohnfromUK
My late father was on Prednisolone (for PMR - Polymyalgia Rheumatica). He didn't get bad side effects, but never 'got off it' - not because it's addictive as such, but without it his PMR always returned. Apparently PMR will (very slowly) be overcome in many people, but tends to always come back in others.

I don't know about arthritis, but my daughter suffered from seizures for ~20 years which were getting progressively worse. They quickly melted away when she started taking their Blue Edition and she's now been seizure-free for six years.

I used to take that combination for lower back pain that I have suffered with all my life, I found it good enough to get me moving and the movement helped to a certain degree. It has never been outright cured though unfortunately, I'm back on the NHS waiting list for physiotherapy due to a flair up. Hope one of the med suggestions sorts you out. I have been asking for a long time, for my GP to prescribe Tramadol. I used to take them (not many) years ago, for a different joint problem, and they worked. I never took the maximum dose allowed per day, and only took two when the pain was really bad. They can be taken with Metformin (I have type 2 Diabetes) without any problems. But my GP is against prescribing them because of the addiction issue. I told him that I could take two Tramadol instead of the maximum 8 Cocodamol, which are also addictive, but he is refusing to give them. I'm going to look further into the CBD oil etc and see what is best for me.

welsh1
2 hours ago, Edtwozeronine said: How do these CBD balms/oils help in any way when the active ingredients have been removed? The active ingrediant you are thinking of is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), this is the chemical that will get you high if you use cannabis. CBD (cannabidiol) is another chemical within the cannabis plant which is the one extracted for these products, it is said to be good for pain , stress, anxiety etc.
amateur
I have suffered from chronic back pain for the past 30 years, not helped by a bout of discitis during lockdown. Most standard pain medications don't touch it, nor did the cannabis derived remedies. I went to the pain clinic at my local hospital and was prescribed Pregabalin, a schedule 3 controlled drug, and had my first undisturbed night's sleep for ages. Our younger daughter takes it for her fibromyalgia, and indeed recommended it. My gp refused to prescribe it and sent me along to the pain clinic, but they had no problem with my using it. I'll let you know how it works out in the long term. Edited October 22 by amateur Typo
steve_b_wales
UPDATE: I purchased some 15mg patches from CBD Brothers, and have tried them out. I put two patches on my knee, which I have arthritis in, and, so far, they haven't done a thing. They may work for some people, but sadly, not for me. I've had them just over a week, so will keep on trying them until the patches (30) run out.

amateur
Update on the Pregabalin. I 'm taking 2 x 25mg capsules a day (morning and evening), and 1. I'm now getting a good night's sleep. 2. My chronic back pain has turned down a notch. I did get a slight feeling of euphoria and a spaced out effect initially, but that has gone. It seems to work Edited November 2 by amateur
