marsh man Posted November 27 Report Share Posted November 27 All the ( greats ) are now heading in the same direction and that is downhill , poor ole Elton can only see out of one eye and last night they showed you Bob Geldof and he also looked a poor ole thing , they used to have a lot of 60s groups play down the sea front or at the caravan camps , trouble is the people who played in the 60s groups are now pushing on towards 80 and over , yea time they put there slippers on and sit in front of a nice log fire . Also, I used to play darts with Peter Noone ( anyone remember his group?) when he bought his dad a pub on our sea front. Saw many of the 60s groups at the Lees Cliff Hall in Folkestone when Watneys Red Barrel was the beer of the day. Lulu & the luvvers, Freddie & the Dreamers (he was right off the wall), The Barron Knights were always good, as were Gerry & the Pacemakers. Who remembers Helen Shapiro? Blimey, the list goes on. Bobba Posted November 28 Report Share Posted November 28 (edited) I knocked about in a couple of Bristol groups in the 60’s and a great venue then for visiting groups was Bristol Corn Exchange. There I saw Rod in one of his best roles ever, with Steampacket. The band was the Brian Auger Trinity and the three singers were Rod Stewart, Long John Baldry and Julie Driscoll. An amazing line up. I cannot only remember Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson , I was one of the lucky / unlucky ones who saw them on stage , this was at a time when we would see any body with our free tickets and I am pretty sure that most of the audience on that night had free tickets just to make the numbers up I can remember loads of the 60s singers and groups , then a lot less in the 70s , even less still in the 80s and so on where nowadays I haven't got a clue If they still have a top 20 , or Top Of The Pops on the box , not that I would watch it even if they did , unless they showed you Helen Shapiro , Walking Back To Happiness 😛 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I once recall 'Roger' driving past us in a Ferrari on the m6, the driver of our vehicle tried to catch him up, however, the old Allegro was no match for the ferrari.
