Conor O'Gorman Posted Monday at 19:59 Report Share Posted Monday at 19:59 In response to a surge in firearm certificate fraud, the National Crime Agency (NCA) has launched a campaign under Project RUTIC to prevent the illegal acquisition of firearms and ammunition. The NCA campaign focuses on educating firearm and shotgun certificate holders about key security measures during private firearms transfers. Scully Posted Monday at 21:21 Report Share Posted Monday at 21:21 Have had a look on two relevant sections of NCA sites regarding NCA statements. It wasn’t an exhaustive search admittedly, but below is the only reference I can find regarding fake tickets. Can find no figures.

Rim Fire Posted Tuesday at 07:36 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 07:36 This is my argument with our local firearms office they insist you have to post your certificate it's only a matter of time where one will get lost in the post then then its possible some low life will have their hands on a real certificate
matone Posted Tuesday at 08:03 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 08:03 Probably a precursor to stopping private transactions as in USA thus requiring use of RFD ........

So they say a surge in numbers but they cannot put a number on it, I think that if it was happening it would be all over shooting related forums, anyone had it happen to them? While it always pays to be vigilant, I think I’ll remain sceptical it’s actually happening let alone a ‘surge’, until they do. As Old’un says above, if it was actually happening we would have heard about it. Let’s not forget it is the policy of licensing authorities to insist legitimate shooters send their tickets to complete strangers to complete none trade transactions. Just a thought. Mungler Posted Tuesday at 21:08 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 21:08 (edited) All very odd. I don’t think I’ve ever sold a gun to someone who I either didn’t already know or who knew someone else I knew. And a check of the news suggests gun crime is not with 2 barrelled shotguns or bolt action rifles. Gordon R Posted Tuesday at 22:52 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 22:52 Disappointed with BASC on this one. Passing on the information with what is described as a surge seems a bit pointless without context. If it had happened once and then happened again that could make headlines such as "Licence fraud doubled". Also disappointed that BASC suggest others check the scale of what they brought to our attention. I rarely agree with clangerman, but he is on the money this time. TIGHTCHOKE Posted Wednesday at 08:27 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 08:27 Whilst not a "non Story", without some figures to support the statement it is all rather wishy washy. I would have hoped that BASC would have raised the points that have been listed by the PW Members above before they just passed the story on. Come on BASC, you can and MUST do better. Old farrier Posted Wednesday at 10:21 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 10:21 To be honest all this could be avoided by a slight change in the rules allow the rfd to do it as had been done ( wrongly 🤔🙄) for years or face to face only totally eliminate the risk involved with posting a certificate Wondering just how many times this has happened to create such a surge just my thoughts of
Mungler Posted Wednesday at 10:24 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 10:24 Easiest way is to insist on passport being produced with FAC / SGC. I remember with my first SGC many years ago now, the photo wasn’t laminated stuck onto the certificate - 2 minutes under the kettle and the photo of me could have been easily lifted off and replaced with another.
