London Best
I often receive an invitation for Boxing Day but it has not happened this year.
Scully
Was invited but haven’t done a Boxing Day shoot since the ex and me split, as my two come over here for another Christmas dinner after spending Christmas Day with their Mum so she isn’t on her own, which is fair enough. No doubt we’ll get out on the rough shoot either Friday or Saturday. Edited December 25, 2024 by Scully Invited not convicted!
enfieldspares
I haven't done one for maybe now thirty years. Ours was always a walk about more than fully driven but with a full team of eight guns and, yes, beaters. So some drives but also some walking up game. It was the only shoot day we could shoot ground game and the tradition was to try to bring a different sort of gun to that you'd use for the rest of the season. So some used to bring hammer guns or smallbores as in 16s or 20s. But it seems now folk prefer the family time at home. udderlyoffroad
St Stephen’s/boxing day is usually the busiest day on our little DIY syndicate as the beaters & guns generally manage to drag (non-shooting) partners along too. Possibly something to do with the need to get some fresh air and exercise after all that Christmas food.
gmm243
I was out today. Myself, my two sons and a friend. We did my friends farm which is great ground for woodcock and we haven't shot it all year si we're looking forward to some good shooting but they had torrential rain during the night which we ,only 8 miles away, didn't get at all. Net result was all the drains we were hoping to hunt for woodcock were out in the fields and the lanes were running like rivers. I have never seen so much water on his ground. It was even running out of the forest in torrents. We walked for over 9km. Saw 7 woodcock and shot two. Saw a lot of deer so will be back with the rifle some day. To make matters worse one of our friends sent a photo of him and a friend who had 15 before lunch then went home.
