Excellent prices - e.g. HMR ammo still a tenner for 50. Very chatty, so much so it's hard to get away sometimes! Gloucestershire Gun Company in Barnsley near Cirencester. Excellent, rifle specialists, always friendly and will usually give you a cuppa, even if you're not buying. The owner Alistair is very knowledgeable, but some of the other staff less so and too keen to sell you what they think you should have and not what you want! Have their own 100m range nearby. highseas Posted February 12, 2011 Report Share Posted February 12, 2011 the worst i have bben too is lakeland guns in workington,this man had a realy deep rooted problem, he also has a realy deep rooted problem with me after i showed him up in front of a shop full of people. i was buying cartriges and he said i was to young and would not sell me any. so i got my phone out rang my fao and handed it to him he told the fao what the problem was and i clearly head "you know full well who you can and cant sell shotgun cartriges to stop being an ****" from my fao and most of the shop heard too the best by far is lowmill ranges in cleator moor, what a shop its got every thing! he opens at 7pm and shuts at 11pm and will open up if you phone him thrue the day. all the guns are on racks with no locks so you can have a look at them all without haveing to ask. he has 4 ranges to try the guns on and they have their own ar15 styl 6.5mm grendal sweet i realy recomend you have a gander in sometime, its hard to get out thou you normaly get a brew made for you too Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Looked for a gun many times and just tried selling me anything, nothing given in the way of fit, weight etc etc. Eventually bought a gun from someone at the forum and used him as the RFD where he proceeded to slag the gun off. When I pointed out in fact it was better than anything he had offered me his face just turned red with anger! Has to be one of the most uncomfortable place I have ever shopped in. This gun shop is five minutes drive from my house, instead I go to the gun shop in St Albans who have a manner about them that makes you want to go back. I personally only ever bought an air rifle from 'A Different Calibre'. Small shop, but I found the guy I was dealing with to be a bit cocky really. Didn't take to him - or maybe he didn't take to me (I am rather drop deal good looking - maybe he felt threatened?!? . I bought the gun, they did a little deal with a slip and pellets. It broke - they got it sent off and repaired in quickish time. I prefer Stutleys, much bigger (and soon to be even bigger). But don't go in on a Wednesday Good stock of everything really. Trevor Stanton at Country Pursuits in Rickmansworth was the guy that got me into shooting all those years ago. Think he used to run a shoot somewhere and I went along as a guest. Ended up going back, bought a gun...never looked back. Lovely guys in there. Honest and knowledgable. I bought my .17HMR at Park Street. Was a good deal on a second hand bit of kit. Been in there a few times for slabs of carts and blocks of ammo. The 'welcome' has been different each time. But always some conversation fi prompted. So, to sum up... I've not really had any disasterous issues with anybody local. But then I tend to just go in, buy what I want and only have a chinwag if it goes that way. I'm there to buy stuff, not make a new friends really. I've not had an experience that would stop me going to any of these. But maybe i'm just lucky. The Essex mafia have found a happy and helpful gunshop (Eastern Sporting) and now stick to it like glue. Given that there will be a happy and pleasant alternative elsewhere, why give your money to people who are rude, miserable, surly and unhelpful. Plenty only do because there is no other competition in the area. Prices a bit high Beaselys - pretty good shop seemed helpful Colchester- went there once popped in last year and asked if he had any second hand 682 gold e he was a bit rude and said that they hadnt been out long enough for there to be many second hand ones I confirmed that we were talking about the same gun and when he said yes I just left, didnt find him helpful at all Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Had a few bad experiences there but this one is the last straw for me.. A friend bought a new and boxed buffalo shotgun cabinet there last year, was told it had a top box and vault style locking mechanism. Got it home and it was a standard two key cabinet with no top box. Also the bottom lock didn't work as there was a piece of metal jamming the lock, you could see it and get the lock to work by moving it out the way with a pin. He took the cabinet back expecting to get either a refund or the cabinet he was sold only to be told "you asked for a shotgun cabinet and that's a shotgun cabinet so whats your problem!", even refused to examine the lock saying "they're all like that, its just new and stiff". After arguing the case for ages he demanded his money back and eventually got it, but not before having his debit card practically snatched out of his hand. The guy in the shop said "I've got someone coming in this afternoon for one, I'll sell it to him"! The best bit is my friend had managed to lock the cabinet, but only realised he hadn't stuck the keys to the side of the cabinet a few days later! :o Haven't seen him for a while so don't know if he's had a chance to pop the keys back yet but it wouldn't surprise me if he dropped them down the nearest drain out of spite If you want a really good gun shop in Bristol, give Braces shooting supplies in knowle a try. I asked about the price for a pair of Chameau's in there, was quoted 100 quid. Went back the next day for something else and said I take a pair of wellies as well please, they had gone up a fiver. So I reminded him that I was the person from the day before and they became £100 again. That was 10 years ago, I haven't had the need to go there since.
