It might not be the case but some Gunshops like many other shops in other industries work on the fact that they dont own large qualities (or main lines of stock - so dont have the liability) therefore if prices are increased by the manufacturers they have to pass it on imediately,

Can understand your frustration though that'd nark me too!

Usually i wouldn`y bother openly complaining about some companies but then some deserve it and should know better, i phoned John Forsey guns up last Friday about a set of Hatsan Escort sling swivels, i was quoted £10 plus £3 p & p, i phoned to place the order today and was told it would be £19 plus £3 p & p, apparently the prices have gone up for them so they had to pass it on, which i know is a complete load because they still have the old swivels from last week bought in at the old price yet decided to whack the prices up.

This shop along with another gun shop in Kent is never going to get any of my business or money again if that is the way they are going to rip their customers.

My RFD only charged me 6-95 for escort sling swivels.

Petrol stations have been doing this for years-putting the price up on 'old' stock. Its not fair, but is quite widespread in the retail sector.

Your quite right they do put prices up(not 90%) BUT guess what sherlock they also put prices down too.

I'd tell them to shove them up there ****. Greedy ******* *******

Yeah when I bought my gun today they quoted a price of £225 on the internet but it was £325 when I got there. However they did apologise and reduce the price £30 plus give me free gunslip, snap caps and safety goggles so I was pleased in the end. :good:

I would tell them to poke them. There is no way that there has been a 90% price incerease.

Does the Escort need "special" sling swivels? You could probably get ones that will fit your gun for a lot less money than that.

There are lots of Escort owners on PW and on the BBS. Why don't you post a thread asking what type they are using?

Have to say that I have used Forsey for all my wildfowling cartridges and a few other bits and pieces and have had nothing but good deals with them.

In fact on my first visit there whilst drooling and getting thoroughly excited about all the wildfowling stuff I was buying, I left my SGC on the counter only realising when I got back home to Suffolk. I phoned them up and they said they had found it and would send it on the Monday via Registered post no charge to make sure I got it back.

True to their word it turned up first thing Tuesday morning :good:

Whilst I can't agree/disagree with your recent experience Warlock I wouldn't be surprised if there hadn't been some sort of misunderstanding somewhere along the line. :P But as others have said if you don't feel yu could trust them then there are always others to go to, such as Edgar Bros direct :P

I too have always had first rate service from John Forsey. I buy all my wildfowling cartridges from him. All his prices have always been very good.

It wouldn't suprise me if someone has made a mistake although how you know he hasn't had more stock in I do not know. Everything from Edgar bros has gone up. I was lucky enough recently to find a CZ .17HMR at the old price, saving myself about £50.

How you can post on here running the guy down for trying to make a living without making a profit is completely beyond me. He didn't rip you off because you didn't pay him for anything. Yet he has had to answer his phone to you twice for nothing.

That's what really gets to me about shopkeepers, they always want to make money out of selling things :good: (TIC)

Dear All

We would like to take this opportunity of stating the facts as we see them as there is some salient information missing.

It would appear that this customer was misquoted in the first instance for which we can only apologise and for which we have apologised to the customer.

The member of staff in question is our least experienced in gun knowledge but is usually exceptional in providing a quality mail order service for our guns, countrywear and bowls business as well as serving customers in the shop.

We would respectfully like to point out that human beings do occassionally make mistakes.

We have had several calls from this customer and each time after the first our reply has been consistant.

Our price for the Escort sling swivels has always been just below the recommended retail price. We have not simply doubled it overnight.

In general we expect to see price increases of up to 20% simply due to the exchange rate, some have already filtered through. The last thing that any retailer wants to do at the moment is to increase prices as this always reduces trade.

Our shop manager, Phil, is very happy to try and sort this issue out directly with the customer. He suggests a telephone call any day we are open between 5 and 5.30 pm when he is usually available.

Regards to all

I did indeed phone and questioned the price and was told that is the price that`s it end of story. Hmmm that`s being very helpful and willing to sort the problem out. Saying that the member of staff was the least experienced is no excuse, if a price is quoted then that is a verbal quote and it should be stuck too, Personally all my staff are trained to the highest standard and i make sure that peope don`t go giving false price quotes in the first place shows the business to be shoddy and poorly run if they do. You have admitted you misquoted me yet fail to honour the original quote given by a member of your staff representing your company, and yet an effort is made to make me in the wrong.

boring now - this is not going anywhere - but when your angry you want some redress - even an apology - but lets get life into perspective !

do you know i spent 2 yrs taking an a##hole to court because he did not do what he said in the first place - fine - he lied - he was wrong - court said i was right - cost me money - did not get an apology, or the money back ! hey great thing principles, but at least i walk around without a MASSSIVE chip on my shoulder getting angry about little things, and do you know what, the bloke's still an a##hole that's for sure.

I for one would like to say welldone for Forsey's for coming on here to give their side of the story. Warlock it is not worth arguing about what may or may not have happened on here. Call them again, go and see them personelly or don't do either it's your choice.

My Experience tells me that whilst every effort is made by any Gunshop/country sports stockist/mailorder/internet company, occassionally mistakes occur and they're not all out to rook us shooters. Sometime's we are all too proud to admit the actual events as they occurred word for word ad verbatim and over a period of time it all gets out of hand.

If I have done my maths right, this thread is about £9.00 ?! Jeeez !! :good:

I am not sure who to feel sorry for, Warlock for moaning about a £9.00 mistake or John Forsey Guns for not just getting Warlocks address and sending him the things for nothing as an apology*.

--------------------

* I once moaned by fax to the owner of the Car Phone Warehouse (Charles Dunstone) about a phone and he sent me a cheque refunding it in full, a new phone and a new case. I have told this story to 50 plus people and would recommend the Car Phone Warehouse to anyone. Forseys would do well to use this situation as a PR exercise and put it right.

I have to say that all my dealings with Forseys, a few bits of equipment by mail order and a new gun, have always been very cordial.

Their premises is a considerable drive from my home, but, upon arrival I`ve always been given a most welcome cup of tea and the service from Phil has always been fast, efficient and knowledgeable.

Its always unfortunate when a customer has a bad experience with a retailer, but it certainly has not been my experience.
