pyr8
bumped into an old fishing mate this week who was telling me about one of my old shooting pals.he has been refused the renewal of his firearms/shotgun ticket on the ground of a second drink driving ban.the first ban was over twenty years ago and the second two years ago.they say he is not resposable enough to hold a licence.i,ve no time for drink drivers i think they should be shot on the spot.has anybody else come across this happening. I would say he was lucky not to lose it after the first time, that's what happens to most people with drink/driving.

dave dog
Some i know someone fell fowl of that quite a few years ago. I can see where they are coming from if your perpare to drive while under influence of achol. Then you will shoot under the influence aswell. Not saythey would shoot. But alot of peple each year die because people drink and drive. But when my paretner paid for me to do my DSC1 of few year ago. It is actually against the law to hold a fire arm of any type, when you have consumed achol and thast means 1 unit is illeagl. The other was a of my girlferinds bother-in-laws what to come and lamping one nigth, so she cooked a meal. to cut the stroy short he had a glass of wine. And he got very minty about the fact I would not let him come lamping. So me and the driver/lamp man went on are own. Girlfirend sister said that resorted her confidence that at all shooters are idiots.

Half the country are alcoholics, most towns are a pukefest on Friday and Saturday nights. It's vile. If they came down on pi$$heads as hard as they came down on smokers, the world would be a better place. I can't abide a man (or woman) who can't hold a drink, or drinks when they can't hold it. **** 'em

Gordon R
I'm surprised that they let him retain until renewal time.
rarms
Given the story, I would say he has a good chance of winning if he fought it as he was allowed to keep his guns for two years after the incident, and it only came up on his renewal. That said, drink driving is wrong, and he preumably was punished for it. But we do not know the ins and outs. It could have been a strong christmas cake! fullbore
It's not just the drinking, or drinking and driving that is the problem, the fact the he was prepared to drink and drive shows a disregard for the law, which makes him not a fit and proper person to have the PRIVELEDGE of holding a firearm license

starlight32
No consistency again I see in firearms law. Someone I know has just recieved a 3 year drink drive ban and he has over 20 guns in his possession, from a .410 to a .338. He was expecting to lose them but after a visit from his FEO he has no problem at all. I think the circumstances must have a bit to do with it though. Whether the morning after catch carries a little less I don't know.

anser2
What on earth has drinking and driving got to do with shooting. Nothing . They may as well say if you break any law they will take your guns away as you are showing disregard for the law. In which case 99% of us will lose our guns as at sometime almost all of us break some law at some time or other. After all can any drivers on here honestly say they have never broken the speed limit at some time and thats just as bad as drinking and driving. I suspect 75% of male drivers on a saterday night are over the limit , they just do not get caught. In most rural areas if you want to go out for a drink you have to drive as there is no pub for miles and the cost of a taxi is hellishly high. If you commit a violent act fair enough but for not just going a tad over the limit . I have a limit of 1 pint when driving , indeed I doubt if I drink 20 pints a year and I do not drink and shoot....... EVER But a lot of people do , their is hardly a organised game shoot in the land where drink is not offered to the guns or the beaters during the day. Its just an excuse for the police to take guns out of public ownership. Edited June 23, 2009 by anser2
