  1. As per title. I've replaced the battery but when pressing the buttons nothing happens. No "writing" appears in the eyepiece: no zeroing takes place. Any useful ideas welcommed. Or can anyone with similar experience confirm it is indeed RIP. Thanks
  2. Yup. But soda siphons were the most profitable.
  3. I often wonder why it is that when genuine complaints are treated indifferently the complainant lets matters rest there and walks off in disgust. Is it fear of embarrassment that stops them escalating matters there and then. One word which causes consternation in such circumstance is "unacceptable". E.g. " your answer / response is unacceptable" followed by "I would like to see the manager as my complaint is not just about the product but also your (the salespersons) unacceptable response to my complaint". Have genuinely had to take this stance twice in about the last six months. It's a pity, as in both cases it seemed to me that the staff had not been trained properly so the responsibility was not theirs alone.

    New kitchen

Many Solicitors offer free 1/2 hr consultation. Consult one with Kitchen Co paperwork and your records to see if any failures constitute breach of contract. Then send Solicitors letter instructing them to remove kitchen and refund your money. I think that this will focus their mind. Even if you have to pay for the service it would have a far better effect than your complaints which are being ignored. As far as fitters are concerned you have no contract with them but with kitchen co who in turn have contract with fitters. So best to keep contact with kitchen co.
  5. I deploy similar tactics. I lay them on the ground, smooth the feathers and push beak into the ground. For some I spread the wings or use a wing spreader on a short rod to create a lander. I wouldn't put it down to laziness. It's just that I'm not at all convinced that all the faff involved with sticks etc gives a noticeable edge to the art of decoying pigeons.
  6. I would agree. Moreover, the OP seems to be speculating about a possible future event yet to happen. Quote ".. If a landowner WAS to sign a permission slip.....". If this is the case then the OP should clarify his requirements with the landowner and incorporate as much as is possible in to the permission slip so that there is no room for error as errors can cause the loss of permission.
  7. Thanks chaps. I've often resorted to insulation tape. Looking for flesh coloured tape!
  8. What ever happened to the sticking plasters of yesteryear? (I am pretty ancient) The ones with such powerful adhesive that they stayed on forever. You could get them extremely wet and work with your hands all day and still they stayed on. You had almost to tear them off and when you did there was a layer of grey adhesive you had to rub / peel off or use some brasso as a remover. Today's pathetic imitations fall off at the slightest hint of moisture or after a few hours application the edges curl and they rub off. My latest purchase of a certain high street chemist family pack falls in to this category. Can anyone recommend please a robust manufacture of sticking plaster? Thank you.

    £1 house

Out of curiosity are self closing doors for loft conversions a "national" requirement or dependant on planning authority? I ask because we had a problem free large loft conversion two years ago. Completed by a reputable specialist Co, all details were agreed with the appropriate authorities (Bristol) and signed off. But it doesn't have a self closing door. It does, of course, have a new hard wired smoke detector system on all floors ( it can be a pain in the proverbial if we burn the tas!!)
  10. Ho Ho. Great idea except the neighbours and Mrs B filling my diary with things to do. My alone time is shooting and fishing.
  11. Thank you chaps for your input. Three options to consider. Something to keep me occupied next week.
  12. My hearing ability is reducing. I now have two hearing aids. Without them my tv volume needs exceed those of Mrs B. (V caring and understanding lady). With them the TV is shrill or doesn't pick up the whispers and side comments in drama programmes. This is spoiling my viewing. (The AIDS have been adjusted twice). So, I am looking at ways of solving the problem. Our TV is a two year old LG with two audio outputs. HP out and optical digital out. These are mutually exclusive in that it's either one or the other. The TV settings are at optical digital because we have a JVC Compact Soundbar. The Soundbar has no output features. I wonder if one answer could be some sort of optical digital cable splitter with one feeding the Soundbar and the other some sort of Bluetooth transmitter thing (ideas please) which I could pair to a set of Bluetooth headphones for me while Mrs B listens to the Soundbar. If any PW member is technologically gifted to say in detail how this would work i.e. What I would need to buy. Or, have an alternative solution to my problem your advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.
  13. Software / Apps such as this seem to undermine the need for security passwords if you can just plug software on a memory stick into someones PC and change their password. Or, as a technophobe, am I missing something?
  14. As far as I could see (admittedlly didn't read the whole list - bored) all hosts were private sector not public sector so technically not at our expense. But what a saddo attending all those junkets????
  15. ?????????????????????? His penultimate Sentance was "Obviously I bought it straight away"
  16. I'd a similar situation. My mother left my son loads of old silver coins. His philosophy was that if he sold them as scrap or to a coin dealer then either way they would know the true worth and, given that that they would know that he had no idea of their true value, would try to buy them off him as cheaply as possible. Rip him off I think he said....... He's in no rush. So he is slowly putting them in date order then will research their value by type of coin eg 2/- or 2/6 and by date to see if there are any pleasant surprises. If your Nan has no need of the money and your both in no rush to get ripped off then suggest that for sentimental sake she leaves them to you in her will. You can the take on the research in slow time.

    Alexa

Not quite Alexa but we were at Sunday lunch at a friends house when a question was raised about something or other and nobody knew the answer. I'll solve that said their son-in-law and at the dinner table started to shout the question into his state of the art iPhone. The absence of a response caused him to become quite animated in his questioning of the 'phone. This continued for some time without success which he attributed lack of clarity for the 'phone due to background noise and chatter Outwith what I thought was an action not for the lunch gathering (despite best intentions) the sight of a someone shouting instructions at an inanimate object was to my mind quite stupid. If this is the way forward then the thought of many like minded people in a confined space /room/ restaurant / all simultaneously shouting different instructions into their 'phones is mind boggling. Time for this technophobe to retreat to a monestry.
  18. I certainly agree with your point here. However, it is not these activities which are coming under fire (sorry, couldn't resist), but shooting is and in particular pheasant and grouse shooting. People of all persuasions and incomes will happily pay to go to concerts etc. and probably hold no grievance against those who choose to go when they do not. My point is that when the Anti's construct their case then should they choose to include the cost per gun day, irrespective of who is paying, then this can be a persuasive arguement on lower income families.
  19. Many of the arguements used by the Anti's are based on moral / ethical / cruelty issues. They have yet to focus on the price per gun/day. If you choose an expensive shoot (and they will in order to make their case) eg Ripley Castle then you are looking at £1,800 day + vat = over £2,200. In other words some people spend more in one day killing when a great percentage of the population run their home and family for a month on less than this sum. Whether folk are labour or conservative this sort of financial statistic hurts. Sadly, it seems to be a ticking clock.
  20. It may be the Labour view but coincidentally (or, perhaps, not so coincidentally) The Daily Telegraph (Torygraph) letters to the Editor page yesterday (13th Feb) carried a letter "pheasant shooters need to hold their fire". Without reference to any credible data source the author states "even a modestly sized local shoot will put down young birds in tens of thousands at the start of the season" ( Note the singular 'shoot'); and, "the carcasses are buried in pits. This simply has to stop". The author is entitled to his views. But it seems that possible sympathisers on The Telegraph editorial staff have taken advantage of their position and highlighted this particular letter and its message by making it the only letter on the page in bold print and placing it centre page with a 3" x 4" coloured photo of a very colourful pheasants head above the letter. No bias there then!

    Carpet Cleaners

A mate sorted out the kids and their friends problem of shoes on carpets / wooden floors. He bought on-line (fleabay I think) a bulk of those hotel style disposable slippers. The kids think their "cool" and happily wear them.

    Carpet Cleaners

I would never use rugdoctor ever again. I used one about 18 mths ago. Tight wad I thought could make a saving against a pro carpet cleaner. Big mistake. Never gain. Although I faithfully followed the instructions to the letter I destroyed the carpet. It is lifeless, lacks sheen and when we next decorate that bedroom we will replace the carpet. Since then we use professionals.

  25. I tried one of those bullet cams with a barrel clamp. They worked well until I pulled the trigger!!!! It couldn't withstand the 20 bore recoil. The footage jolted, jumped went grainy and was useless. Choose with care.
