We were AA joint members for 25 yrs (gold members😂)and then they started to take the peeeee. The renewal price escalated but if I went on line to join as a new member the price was significantly less. Quick ‘phone call to point this out and the renewal reduced. Last year they wouldn’t drop the price enough so my wife let her joint membership lapse and I joined a joint membership. An RAC recruiter once said that AA stands for Always Absent. If you are buying new then one thing you may wish consider is buying one with a surface only pillar valve. Dive cylinders will come with a pillar valve for diving. A cylinder capable of supporting diving, even if used only for surface only use, will be regarded as a diving cylinder. This means it will be subject to an IDEST visual test 2 1/2 years after manufacture (that date is stamped into the shoulder of the cylinder) and a hydrostatic test 5 years after manufacture date. Whereas, a surface only cylinder needs to be tested only every five years. Thus you will save the cost an inconvenience of visual tests.

You will see from my earlier SKB topic that the guy in SKB USA say they have info on NA serial No’s. It may be worth a punt emailing him to see if they have info on your serial No. Just a thought.

I started a topic on “SKB - made in Japan”. Scroll down the topics a bit. Mine is a 12 bore sxs. I’ve had the stock altered + kickeezee to increase the LOP. It does thump a bit so I will try a few different softer cartridges to find what suits me best. SKB USA do have a website with the history of the Co.

True indeed. However……..I’d ordered a bottle Calvados. Clearly the system designers scoping study failed to consider user needs

Once, pre covid, when touring Ireland with both a fly rod and spinning rod in the car I would often stop and discuss fishing prospects with local fisherman. On one stop I was asked if we had problems with Easter Europeans taking fish. I said in many areas, yes. To which came the reply along the lines of “We did too, so we told them that if they continued to do so they would be unable to work for a while and walk with a permanent limp after that. And it was no use complaining to the Garda as he said we could give you this warning. The problem stopped” Now, this could have been a wind up at my expense. But somehow I doubt it.

Nothing technical to offer but are there any terms / caveats etc in your motor insurance policy which suggest that it would be prudent for you to notify your insurers of any significant changes to your stated normal overnight storage arrangements? As an example, if your car suffered damage they could try and refuse a claim on the grounds that the insured risk was generally overnight parked in a gated compound not 6 months in a public car park! Just a thought.

For shotguns, the previous software allowed users to refine their search. For example by make, calibre, condition, action, County etc. etc. As far as I have tried the new release does not, thus making searching and browsing extremely difficult and frustrating. very large omission and backward step - in my view.

Since the opening post it is now with a gunsmith for stock changes. Barrels were measured and gauged. The conclusion was that it is choked 1/4 and 5/8ths as regards steel, in 5 years time I’ll be 84 and such matters will not worry me. Never having had a sxs this was an impulse buy. Tidy gun and happy with my decision.

For anyone owning an SKB shotgun - made in Japan, I thought I would post this additional info not on the SKB website. I recently bought a SKB sxs 12 bore 200E. Very good condition so I wondered about the date of manufacture, I contacted "Holloway" on here as he had previously posted on SKB shotguns. He had been unable to date his and had to trawl back catalogues to look for matching specifications. So I emailed SKB USA. Their reply was immediate. Although unable to help with the date they gave a detailed explanation as to why. This is below. It really is a great sign of SKB customer service to respond in this way when it could have been all to easy to just say sorry, no can do. "Bob, sorry, we only have records of Japanese made shotguns that we have imported into the United States from 1987 to 2009. Typically, we have information available for most guns with serial number prefixes of NS, NSG, NA, and AS. SKB Shotguns USA does not have records of other importers, to include Shotguns imported by "Ithaca Gun Company" were manufactured from 1966 to 1978. Shotguns imported by Mitsui (Chicago, IL) were manufactured from 1981 to 1984. Shotguns imported by Sile were manufactured from approx. 1984-1987. Shotguns imported by “Weatherby” from 1984 to 2004. The SKB factory in Japan closed operations in 2009; all documents pertaining to shotgun production were turned into the Japanese government. For additional research we have all the old Ithaca/SKB catalogs back to 1966 and some owner’s manuals on our website at skbshotguns.com." Ditto. I no longer shoot a particular permission for this very reason. It is an arables farm close to three villages and has defined signposted footpaths but local muppets forged links between them. A walk around rabbit evening started to become a nightmare. Often challenged with “should you be shooting here where people walk?” If I responded with “do you realise your trespassing?” the response was often “We have the right to roam” and the verbal abuse was amazing. It was becoming an uphill battle we were never going to win. It would only take one muppet to complain to the police that they felt threatened and there was the risk of a police knee jerk reaction and all that that could entail. Not worth the risk so, sadly, I binned it.

We only use the open fire in the front room occasionally. So, I skip raid (I do ask). The amount of usable firewood from loft conversions, fence posts etc is enough for our needs.

If you can enjoy burning logs in your area then consider yourself lucky. Under the Clean Air Act 1993 all of Bristol is covered by a smoke control order. This means we can’t emit smoke from a chimney unless burning an authorised fuel or using an exempt appliance. We can be fined up to £1,000 for breaking the rules.

Oh so true. Mrs B received an alert from Amazon to the effect that there was a problem with her account so all outstanding orders had been withheld until she reconfirms her personal data to rectify matters. The Amazon page looked very realistic and people could be confused so full marks to the scammers. Their only problem is that Mrs B does not have an Amazon account 🤡
