    Syria

Agreed, and we haven't any teethgnashing reports about the fact that coalition airstrikes killed 1,000 civilians during March http://www.newsweek.com/trumps-war-civilian-deaths-syria-577353
  2. Decoying last month and a Buzzard attacked the Pigeon on my flapper. I had to straighten out the bend in the ground spike of my flapper.
  3. It's typical of this flippin' country, never invest in anything, just try to get maximun out whilst putting minimum in and never do anything until it is going to cost at least a hundred times what it would have cost if they'd just got on and done it. Back in the early seventies they knew that the A604, a standard single carriageway, needed to be a three lane motorway because it linked the M1, M6, A1 and later the M11 with the East coast, Harwich and Felixstowe. So, to save money, they made it a dual carriageway A road. Now they're having to build a completely new road between Cambridge and Huntingdon at the cost of billions. It's only taken them nearly 50 years to start it I think the government is just marking time now in the same way that they've done with energy, rail and are now doing with the NHS, just let it go to pot until we have no choice but to turn to private contractors and PFI. The really daft part about it is that the private companies that are now taking on the work are owned by foreign governments so our infrastructure is now becoming renationlised by other countries' governments who can suck the money out of us to subsidise their own infrastructure It's only a matter of time before they start saying 'If you want decent roads then you'll have to pay for them' then all these ANPR cameras will start charging tolls and we'll get clobbered with another tax. Still, musn't grumble
  4. Stronger together but keep giving Scotland, NI and Wales more and more independence when they blackmail Westminster to secure votes. What a crock of ....... well anything really. Even when we eventually get out of the EU then we'll hardly be a United Kingdom. Thanks Dave

    Energy companies

I have a friend who's coming up to retirement, he's disabled and he lives with his elderly mother. They're paying a small fortune for utilities and he wants to but his Mum refuses to change. I've even offered to help them switch to the same company that I switched to last year but she won't have it and she rules the roost.
  6. Motogp highlights were on CH5 19.00 Monday and should be on catchup. Interesting racing at last after years of watching paint dry. Won't say more than that, don't want to spoil. Problem with that is I don't get to see Moto2 and Moto3 which, in my opinion, is more exciting that Motogp.
  7. another main reason that I voted out, and nothing to do with immigration, is the fact that the EU has been unable to produce substantial accounts for years now because of fraud, corruption and lack of accountancy and accountability. Not something I want to be a member of.
  8. I coudn't give a monkeys about furriners!! My buddy and I used to go beachcasting on a regular basis and our prize fish was Bass. We haven't been for a year because last January the EU commission, not the European Parliament as it never got debated in the Parliament, decided to impose restrictions on recreational Bass fishing. Bearing in mind that the EU is supposedly for the common good and make it equal for all member states. The restrictions are that no Bass can be taken from Jan 1st to June 30th and only 1 Bass can be taken 1st July to 31st December. The fine is £50,000. Guess what? the Spanish trawlers can come right up to our beaches and take 1,000 tonnes a month. https://ec.europa.eu/fisheries/cfp/fishing_rules/sea-bass_en Taking into account the fact that we would normally buy bait, tackle and have meals etc at the venue then, along with a loss of other anglers revenue, it has quite a knock-on effect. I don't have any argument with the fact that Bass stocks need protecting but what I object to is the fact that we have the EU Commission who can and do impose laws on us but we also have the EU parliament who can only make recommendations to the commission but not pass laws themselves. The EU parliament is elected but the EU Commission is not. Good giggle about Jimmy Krankee moaning about being dictated to by Westminster but is desperate to continue to be dictated to by an unelected commission. Also made me laugh about Gina Miller and other remainers insisting on Parliamentary debate and democracy to try and remain subject to an unelected commission.
  9. ere we go, ere we go, ere we go !!!!!!! Oi!!! you Euro fings, get out of my water and leave the Bass to me. Catch yer own fish and leave mine alone!!!
  10. +1 and Uncle Dave continued the theme by giving Scotland even more devolved powers in order to buy the remain vote. Along with the Welsh and NI, Westminster has done a pretty good job of breaking up the united kingdom (sic) by devolving powers to buy votes that at the same time grant independence. Why devolve powers at the same time as preaching that we're stronger together? United Kingdom? My ****, without any help from the EU
  11. As far as I understand it that is exactly how many companies reduce their tax liability, especially offshore companies and LLP's having their business 'concluded' offshore and then loan the money back to their UK sited company. Whether it's ethical or not is up for debate. Also the old company ABC trick, A makes a profit, B breaks even and C makes a loss. A loans C a load of dosh to pay for its debts that it owes to B. All three companies have the same directors. C can then flog itself to A for £1 and is wound up and A or B can then set up a new C.
  12. I challenged my local WH Smith about this when they made the decision to put shooting mags on the top shelf along with porn. I pointed out that loads of women's magazines with headlines such as "My father raped me" and "Beaten to a pulp", next to a photo of a woman with her face smashed up, were situated on lower shelves right next the children's comics. The reply I got was that it was down to 'market forces and customer choice'.
  13. Pretty much like George Sorros admitted that he forced the Bank of England into 'quantative easing' and made billions at the expense of the british taxpayer. I'm sure the money men will also use Brexit in any way they can to line their pockets. When I was a kid, many many years ago , then brown eggs cost more than white eggs because they were considered better even though they cost the same to produce. Money itself was, is and always will be a con, we just have to live with it best we can.
  14. Taxpayer funds someone on benefits and if they do any other work they get penalised and get their benefits means tested by a private company who profit from stopping benefits. The first thing that happens in a recession is benefits get reduced. Politicians get funded by the taxpayer to work for us plus an expense account equivalent to another income and they can have as many jobs as they like and earn as much as they like and during a recession their pay goes up. All in it together?? I should cocoa!!!
  15. Boat or bank? If bank then it depends alot on the wind. Generally a SW, if it's light then the dam, or Church Hill are my favourite marks. If windy then the south end of the dam or wading off the dam carpark. Pitsford Pea, green and black Tapole or Goldhead Damsel on Di3 are the lures that work for me. On Tuesday I waded off the dam carpark and bagged up with 6 fish. Floating line, Deer Hair sedge at butt, 12' leader, #14 black/red buzzer then bloodworm buzzer and a green/black booby on point to fish washing line. I had two double hookups. On the first one the point fish slipped the hook but I landed both fish on the second. From reports I think it's been fishing fairly well all over. I may well be able to meet if you fancy teaming up so I've pm'd my number.
  16. If all of the above checks fail to solve the problem then it could be the exhaust valve leaking, if it's a four-stroke of course.
  17. Cameron split the UK assunder by using devolution to buy votes. Doling out greater independence for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales whilst at the same time spouting that we're stronger together???
  18. Nice to see he's tackling tax-dodging big corporations to make a fairer tax burden, not
  19. Grafham last Saturday 3 x stockies Di3 & pitsford pea. No takes on buzzer, hopper or shrimp. Today 3 x 2lb. 1st on pitsford pea Di3, 2nd dawl bach and 3rd on bloodworm buzzer both fished washing line.
  20. I started drawing my OAP this year. My wife and I have been to the Acoustic Festival of Britain for the past three years and we're booked to go again this year, camping from the 1st to 5th June in our own tent. We have an 8man for the two of us so plenty of room to dance. It's a great friendly festival. You can park next to your tent, good showers and toilets. Only a short walk to the events. We take part in the Ukulele workshop every year and you could end up taking part in a gig on the main stage on the Sunday afternoon, even if you've never played uke before. Loads of different acts so something for everyone. Very friendly, we take our chairs down in the morning and set them up for the main stage and then we can wander round all the other tents to see different acts and our chairs will still be there wnen we want them. Plenty of good food stalls but Uttoxeter is only a short walk away if you want to eat in or a Tesco's if you need supplies. Exceptional VFM I say.
  21. Considering Little Britain consisted of exactly the same sketches week after week after week then I wouldn't see it getting any better which is why I won't be watching it.
  22. Don't forget EU Bass regulations. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/bass-fishing-guidance/bass-fishing-guidance :unhappy:

    new state pension

I have an ex-forces pension and now a state pension. I used to do an early morning job before I got my OAP but I didn't realise the tax implications. My pension is taken off of my personal tax allowance and so, rather than £11k tax allowance, I only get about £3k tax allowance so I started paying a significant amount of tax from my early morning job. I'm not complaining, that's the rules, but be aware, if you do have other jobs then your tax liability may change.
