  1. Just watched the last program. Restaurant opened and moving on. As you English folk would say : BRILLIANT! Hoping for many more.
  2. Just finished watching episode where the planning commission refuses application. We are avid watchers of the series from our farm in western Canada. How does anything get done in England with all the bull**** you must deal with? It is similar in that rural people dislike change. A lot of it is jeaulosy. But I can put a building up without anyone’s permission. A restaurant has-food safety requirements but little more. I know the show is made for television but the issues are real. I hope it educates a few city people. My great grandfather made a wise choice to leave Scotland 150 years ago. Or I might be stuck there dealing with the BS.
  3. When my daughter was about 12 I told her I was going to get a tattoo. She was aghast. Now that she is 23 and suggested we get matching tattoos. We did. The legal land description of our farm. My grandfather homesteaded over 100 years ago. NW 1/4 10-16-8 W3 She is sentimental like me.
  4. We take a lot here,100s at least. A hot barbecue:350, hun in loose foil laid on back. About 12 minutes. Your time may vary. A lot of birds are breasted and done in a frypan. Excellent. Very mild
  5. Over here we just had minus 30 deg Celsius for three days. Labs were in insulated kennels with doors. A heating pad on the floor of each. The pad is just warm to the touch. As it warmed up the dogs came out to sit on the snow. They do like being out of the wind. The photo shows how the house poodle keeps her butt warm .
  6. I think the days of gifting alcohol for most anything are fast disappearing. I feel it is almost ignorant to assume someone wants or need a bottle of alcohol. Yes people still drink but something more appropriate would be a ham or such. I shoot thousand of acres and give many a gift certificate to a restaurant. This includes the whole family and is remembered by all.
  7. Just for general interest: in western Canada I pay 6.41 cents a kilo watt hr. Ours is a combo of hydro and coal. The coal plant is to be shut down in several years. I think to be replaced with natural gas. But I am not sure if that is pure enough for the green people. There are windmills about but only supply less than one percent of our electricity on their best days.
  8. I saw a documentary a few years ago: SAVAGE PEACE. Footage taken after the war.About Eastern Europe. They showed a lot of hangings beating and shooting executions. Quite a long scene of the hang from the hook method from Poland. You did not want to be a German soldier straggling alone or a collaborator. There are still Dutch immigrants in Canada who remember who the collaborators were and where they or their families are today.
  9. Greys were released in western Canada 100 years ago. They have done very well. Easy to find 150-200 birds a day. We can have quite severe weather; very hot to 40 below zero. I would have thought that with your moderate climate they would be everywhere. Great sport and good eating.
  10. Saddle scabbard is correct. Used in the Yukon and places with horseback hunts. Not much use for your average gun owner.

    Lace up wellies

Try Bean boots, rubber bottom and leather tops. Come in slip on and lace up. Six to 18 inches high. Google ll bean. Might be pricy to get to UK but last me five to seven years of hard wearing.
  12. My new lab : Dan and one of his first Huns. Six months old and going to be one of my best dogs
  13. One of my labs,Curly, ate a muskrat whole. Started at the head. Worked it all in tail and all. Didn’t bother her at all. Some labs are born to consume anything they can get in their mouths.
  14. Joseph Hilderbrand of Herbert , Saskatchewan , Canada died fighting in Ukraine two days ago. Thirty three years old , with two tours in Afghanistan. A farm boy who went to fight for the right cause. Just like all the farm boys from western Canada who died in the world wars. Our Rememberance day is tomorrow, the 11th. He is the only person I knew who died in battle so it will be very personal tomorrow. RIP Joseph
  15. Dubbin. My father used it 70 years ago here in Canada. I thought we were the ones who invented it. Great stuff
  16. What happened in Leicester?
  17. In Canada now. Watching replay of Queens funeral. Very moving and well done. She brought great honour to your country. Long live the King
  18. Was aquainted with a couple in their 30s. While in the middle of a divorce she had no money. She and a boyfriend took a box of husbands tools and sold them. The husband went to their home and shot them both while in bed together. He said -and I believe- that he didn’t mind them shacking up but he couldn’t stand theives. Up for 25 years, 15 years gone so should be out soon. There were three teenagers, one has since had a wreck of a life.
  19. There will be wheat available from Canada. Highest bidder will get it. The crop seeding has just begun . Conditions are dry in my area. Wet and causing a late start in many others. Expect prices to increase.
  20. We have lots of wolves in Canada. The U.S. imported some and set them free. You probably don’t need wolves in Britain. There will be unexpected consequences. I predict issues would arise that no one ever thought of. The world is not short of wolves. I think we sent you beavers and muskrats, how is that working for you?
  21. I have a shoot in western Canada. This fall I will have overs 1000 grays on my land. They are everywhere. I take a lot but not at 900 a pair. They were introduced a 100 years ago and have done really well. Our native grouse used to be seen in flocks of hundreds. Habitat loss has really hurt them.
  22. Here in Canada we probably get similar reporting to yours. No front line action reports. Only clips of the aftermath of battles. Don’t know why as most wars have some reporters up front dodging bullets. We have a large Ukrainian population here in western Canada. They have vivid memories of Russians murdering their parents or grandparents.
  23. Like Wymberly said: you really do not want shingles. Take the shot.
  24. I even read about your capercaillie in Canada. Putting up fences for birds to hit and allowing foxes free reign. Sounds like our greenies advised yours. The article I read was crying that perhaps some foxes would have to die to save the birds.
  25. Most people in W Canada would be happy to see him go tomorrow. But realistically he has about 50/50 chance of being re elected.
